The K48 continues Shuttle's K-series tradition of offering a small, cost-effective computing solution. It is ideal for basic computing solutions such as web surfing or office applications in a business or home environment. With larger amounts of content coming from network sources, a Gigabit LAN is included so that it can be accessed in an instant at broadband speeds. An integrated Intel Graphics Media Accelerator with PCI-E improved bandwidth is able to handle most graphic needs with 224 MB of shared memory, dynamic video memory technology and enhanced 3D performance. Realtek ALC 662 six-channel high definition audio provides full, rich sound.

The small aluminum case includes a changeable front plate so users can dress up their system. It supports Intel Socket 775 single and dual-core processors including the Core 2 Duo, Pentium Dual-Core and Celeron series CPUs. Up to 2GB of DDR2 memory can be installed and the mainboard supports BIOS fan control for optimal cooling at low noise levels. The aluminum and acrylic case can mount a pair of 3.5" drives internally and a 5.25" optical drive with external access. It is small enough to fit anywhere and has an equally small thirst for power with a 100 Watt power supply with active Power Factor Correction for reduced energy consumption.
