Shuttle SS21T AMD Socket AM2 SiS 761GX Barebone

Pros: Nice size, if you're looking for something smaller than a mid-sized case. I dropped in a SATA hdd, 2 IDE dvd drives, a video card, memory and cpu, and had a system ready to load an OS in an hour (or less).

Cons: Would be nice if Shuttle would upgrade to a higher output power supply, with a PCI-E connector. Also, be careful if you decide to use an aftermarket cpu cooler, as it might not fit with the hdd cage in the case.

Overall Review: I had ZERO problems getting windows to load, using a SATA hard drive and IDE dvd drive.... can't really understand why anyone would. Do yourself a favor, and either mod a filter onto the side vent opening, or use thumbscrews to secure the case skin, cuz that thing is a huge place for dust to get into your case!

Pros: Easy to assemble, and a great value for an office computer.

Cons: None so far.

Pros: Great price/value/quality. Reasonably quiet after changing BIOS setting for variable 'ultra low' fan speed. Never seems to get hot enough to move off the ultra low speed.

Cons: Slow, first generation SATA speeds. (1.5gbs vs 3.0) Only one PCI slot. Need a screwdriver to open the case. Fan on motherboard ads some unnecessary noise. Why not a heat-sink?

Overall Review: If you don't use a second optical drive, you can put a third hard drive in the space. Totaling 2 SATA and 1 IDE. Power supply runs a 65w Athlon X2 3800+, 3 hd's, DVD/RW, and a fanless 7800gt with no problems.

Pros: 1. Easy to install 2. Light 3. Good audio and USB access at front 4. Price is right (after rebate)

Cons: 1. Fan is kind of loud 2. Audio jack at front has low quality connection

Overall Review: Overall, I am happy with this new system. With 1G and Athlon64 3000 AM2, XP boot up time is less than 10 sec.

Pros: Runs much cooler and quieter than my SN95G5 or SK81G Shuttles. Running a 4200+ X2 65w CPU and 2GB of G. Skill memory. Video is a PNY 7900GS. No software install issues with Fedora 7. Using a Pioneer PATA DVD burner and a WD 250GB SATA drive.

Cons: PCI-E socket should have been the outer socket of allow for double-wide video cards like 8800GTS. PSU is only 250w. Replaced it with a 400w PSU. Springs on "stealth" doors are way too weak.

Overall Review: Standard PSUs are +30mm deeper than the supplied PSU. This will interfere with the cabling of drives in the HD tray. I solved this by cutting the back panel to allow the new PSU to stick out the back by about 3/4 of an inch. I also cut down a spring from a ballpoint pen and used it for the DVD door. Works a little better, the door closes all the way now.

Pros: it was DOA, pros were that new egg took it back.

Overall Review: There was some kind of power issue. I ended up a buy a much cheaper barebones and it started up with in an hour of me starting to put the pieces in. I decided this was sadly overpriced.

Pros: I've built many computers and this one, was probably one of the easiest to get up and running. Documentation is very good and provided all pin-outs. Cable management was also very nice.

Cons: Be sure your DVD is "standard" with the button placement and tray size. My Phillips 20X is not compatible because of this, Liteon DVD drives operate fine. The door springs are a little weak and one door doesn't close tightly. I used a Mitsume Floppy/Media card reader which has a standard USB interface vs. buying the Shuttle OEM reader. The issue is that there are no more USB connectors available because they use a different connector for their reader (5 pin with a different pitch). I opted for not connecting one of the front panel USB connectors which is the standard USB header.

Overall Review: I received a XP fatal stop error related to the SIS video driver. I updated the driver (761 chipset) from the SIS website which has been recently released and so far no more errors. I used the AMD 4200+ processor to get the best processor power and stay in my budget.

Pros: Sleek looking, moves air with fans on high...

Cons: Bios in the one I received was configured wrong with the vcore locked at 1.5 (should be 1.2 to 1.4) resulting in a 90c temp / cpu kill within 20 minutes of trying to lower it.

Overall Review: Not sure if I want to RMA it or choose something other than a barebone system.
