Does this box support HDMI HD 7.1 audio over HDMI in Windows? I know it doesn't have optical digital our and i don't want to use analog audio out. I want to use this as an HTPC Kodi box with Synology NAS.

in case others see this question and the answers the analog connection actually DOES support 7.1 despite the answer given on march 14th. as per the pictures and description it has a front stereo,  center/sub, surround side left and right, as well as surround rear left and right. all labelled.

How do you populate the optional RS-232 port?

Newegg doesn't allow external links but do a Google search for shuttle H-RS232. They make a cable with a connector.

Question 4

It is possible to buy this without the 300W power supply? I am planning to upgrade to 500W and it seems like a huge waste to just throw it out.

Not that I know of - maybe Newegg can order one for you with the 500w power supply from Shuttle.

If you plan on running a good video card I would suggest you do the 500w upgrade. I put in a Samsung 500G Samsung EVO SSD /  an i7 / 3700K CPU / 32G of DDR4 2400 memory / Nvidia Quadro 6000 video card / CD-DVD burner and it needed a minimum of 233w

See what Newegg will do for you. If not them, maybe someone else can handle it for you. Be sure to get the BIOS right - it took 3 tries to get it all to work right!

OK so this model supports Kabylake with a bios update.   Will it boot long enough to install a bios update if you dont have a skylake processor to put in first?  In other words is there a way to update the bios with only a kabylake processor?  I have searched the shuttle site and zero info.

I called Shuttle tech support today and they said that the old bios will not boot with a Kabylake processor.  Booting will produce a blank screen and you will not be able to update the bios.   Most of the units available for sale should have the new bios, but there are still a few old  ones out there.   If you happen to receive a Shuttle with the old bios,  then Shuttle upon request to their tech support, will ship  a new bios chip to the customer.  Replacing the bios chip on the motherboard will resolve the problem.   Really like this case, so I'm ordering one.
