Will the software work with MAC OS X El Capitan and the SIP implmentation?
Can a USB hub be connected to this unit and how many devices may be supported?

Can't answer on OS X El Capitan or SIP, but you can definitely attach a USB hub.

Per the product brief PDF on Silex America's website:
"2 USB port – with a total of 1000mA of power supply; using an
optional USB hub, up to 15 USB connections can be supported"

I have one that has two 7-port single-chip (most are a 4-port hub with another 4-port hub cascaded) self-powered USB hubs on it and it works fine, though I don't think I've ever filled all 14 ports (if the hubs count, one port would have to stay empty).

The SX2000 and earlier models had issues with cascaded hubs, but I do not believe this is the case anymore.  I just have the same hubs I have from back then (translucent case made it easy to find one that wasn't a two-chip hub).
