Yes, I use it in my laptop and I have a 1 TB in my desktop. Use a good backup program to copy your boot drive if you want it to be bootable. I use Macrium Reflect since it's free.

what is the actual capacity of this drive after formatting? i am trying to replace some 500 GB hdd's for my aunt and don't want to go overkill with 1TB drives.

Windows properties reports "500,105,736,192 bytes    465GB" (used + unused add up to 500B) on my computer. There are skewed by a couple of factors that relate: 1k is 1024 bytes, some is effected by the formatting done, whether there is a recovery partition, etc.

What I have done to keep the cost down but improve performance is to use a 128, 250, or 500 SSD for OS, virtual memory, and anything requiring frequent access, then use HDD for data, document, and media storage. Depending on how the computer is used, I find this works the best for me. One thought might be add 1 500 SSD, move the OS to the SSD and set as boot drive, use one of the 500 HDD's for data & etc., and the second for an automatic backup drive. SSD is small and there should be a place somewhere in the chassis to add it.

Will this fit into the ps4?

The PS4 has a 500GB 2.5-inch SATA HDD, the likes of which are usually found in a laptop. Your choice of replacement hard drive must be no thicker than 9.5mm, otherwise it won't fit in the hard drive enclosure within the PS4. That does limit your options somewhat, especially if you're looking for a 2TB hard drive. I hope this helps.

Any laptop or computer with a SATA interface will work. To migrate the laptop drive backup the original with a boot capable backup program to a third drive and then restore to the SSD. I use Macrium Reflect from Paragon.
