Would this work with a MSI laptop?

Depends on the model. If the laptop has a Gen 3 PCIe M.2 slot that fits a 2280 sized card then it should work.

Question 3

So I have 2 m.2 drives on my board. One is "ultra" which is nvme and the other is not. Can you use this stick in the non ultra slot? I figure you probably can, may be a stupid question, just want to make sure.

Yes. The non-ultra is just indirectly through the PCH, so it's slightly slower. I have multiple systems with these drives working great in both slots.

will this work with a MacBook Pro retina early 2015?

IFixIt has a teardown for the 2015 MacBook Pro that shows the SSD. It appears that the 2015 model's SSD connector would not be compatible with this product because the notch is in different places.
