the specs on here said 8gb ram 1 slot only not upgradable?

The laptop has 4 GB of RAM soldered in and one slot. The slot came from NewEgg with an 8 GB RAM card. The owner's manual (online) says that the maximum supported in the slot is 8 GB making a total for the machine of 12 GB. There is conflicting information on the Crucial memory website in that a search on this computer offers both 8 GB and 16 GB RAM cards, but then adds something about being limited to what is supported by the manufacturer. If the machine would support the 16 GB RAM card, the total in the machine would be 20 GB. Crucial guarantees that their memory is compatible with what their website specifies. I communicated with Crucial tech support about the conflict and the tech support person did not address the question, he just told me (email) to use the compatibility search function on the Crucial website. I decided to be satisfied with a total of 12 GB of RAM at this time.

Question 2

Does the bios allow changing the boot up device? Need Linux and Windows 7 compatibility.

Yes it does, I am succesfully dual booting linux and windows. Be sure to disable fast boot however, as if you cause your boot device to be unbootable you won't be able to boot anything else; your only recourse is to take it out and put it in another machine to fix it.

How is the screen visibility for working outdoors? Can you see it or is it too dim?

This is not the brightest of screens, but it is quite glare-resistant and perhaps in the shade under a tree it might be usable, but not ideal I think.

I saw a usb-c port on this lapton. Can I use usb-c cable to charge this laptop from a power bank?

I do not see a NIC listed. Does it have a NIC and what speeds is it capable of (ie. 10/100/1000)?

Hello:  This does not have a built in Ethernet NIC.  New laptops, because of their thinness, are getting away from RJ45c connectors.  Instead, this has a USB-C connector.  You need to purchase a USB-C hub,  These typically run between $20-30.  A USB-C hub also gives you extra USB 3.0 connectors, display ports, HDMI and Ethernet.  You can connect with Gig speeds if your local provider service runs that fast.  This does have a very fast Intel wireless NIC.

Where does it say THIS MODEL has an IPS screen? On ASUS website the F512DA series has an IPS option, but it does not state IPS in the specifications here.

Is the body aluminum or plastic?

The bottom appears to be plastic.  It's difficult to tell if the top cover and inside surface are aluminum or not, but it is definitely not the same as the bottom.  They are much thinner.   The entire laptop is sturdy.  Hope that helps.

For me its about 5-7 hours overall usage. Web browsing and watching videos/movies.
