Question 1

Does it work with Win 8?

Accepted Answer

Yes, I've used it quite well in Skype with a headset and transferring photos to and from my phone. After installation of the software stack you'll have another category in my computer that will list different devices you've connected to.

Question 2

Can this be used for a bluetooth headset for any from chatting to gaming to listening to audio?

Accepted Answer

Bluetooth itself has an issue with anything chat related. Bluetooth can only do mono audio at the same time as mic input. If you can turn of mic input from your headset , then it can give you good audio but stereo audio and mic input at the same time same device will not work. It might be different with embedded Bluetooth but I know I'm unable to use the mic and have stereo audio at the same time with the default drivers on this. It might work if can configure it to use windows default drivers but idk depends of the computer... The drivers in general can be finicky.

Question 3

Can I run two Bluetooth speakers at the same time with this dongle?

Accepted Answer

You should be able to. I have connected both a set of headphones as an audio device and a smartphone as a hands free device through it simultaneously without them directly linked to each other. I believe that you could connect up to 7 such devices at once, but I have yet to try this. Each device is set as a different output and can have a different volume setting and a different source. For example, play a game on one and a movie on the other.

The selling point for me however was its increased range which boosted my headphones from a mere ~15ft to almost 45ft.

Question 4

Backward compatible with older Bluetooth versions (V3.0, V2.0)?

Accepted Answer

Sorry, I cannot give you a firm answer to your question. The truth is that I had ( still having ...) some issues pairing some devices with this dongle - bluetooth headphones, to be more specific. I am using Win 7 64 , and is giving me some errors ( missing drivers ) ? I didn't have time to "dig" too much into it. It may be, as you're asking, some backward compatibility ? Overall, not very excited about the product - not quite "plug and play".

Question 5

DOES IS WORK WITH WINDOWS 8?

Accepted Answer

I'm sorry I don't know. My Windows 8 machine came with a Bluetooth device.

Question 6

Is this bluetooth device compatible with Linux Distros? I am mostly concerned about Ubuntu, and Fedora.

Accepted Answer

it works for me with a ubuntu to 12. With Ubuntu 14 there were fewer connectivity problems.

After an upgrade to 14.10 I was able to seamlessly use a Bluetooth keyboard and even after the keyboard went to sleep it would reconnect when I begin typing with that keyboard.

Question 7

How do I get the computer to read the cd?

Accepted Answer

Putting the CD in CD/DVD drawer should get it to play automatically IF you have auto play enabled. Need to know what OS you have (XP, Vista, Win 7 or Win 8) to instruct on how to enable this but you can always double click on the CD/DVD drive icon to open/start the CD.

Question 8

can this be used to transfer pictures from a smart phone onto a laptop?

Accepted Answer

I'm not sure never tried it, I just use it for my bluetooth headphones, wish I could help more.

Question 9

Can this be used on a Win8.1 laptop to pair with Dualshock3 controllers? The USB cables are pretty flaky...

Accepted Answer

yes you can on windows 7, not sure about 8, but you have to use a third-party software like motionjoy to use ds3 on pc (but im sure you know that part b/c its the same even with usb cable) its def not plug and play but it should work if you know what you are doing

Question 10

My car has a USB input for music (thumb drives work well). Can I use this device to stream Pandora, from my Android phone, through this for play back in my car?

Accepted Answer

Sorry, this won't work that way. Sticking a thumb drive in works because the car stereo was designed to read thumb drives for supported media files, like mp3s for example. The thumb drive is a storage device and that driver is pre-loaded on the car stereo so that it can read the storage device.

Car stereos that do not already have Bluetooth do not have the drivers to support it, so buying this USB nano dongle will not work. You would need a car stereo with either an auxiliary input so you could connect your phone directly to it with a cable, or a car stereo with Bluetooth already built in.

Hope this helps.
