Are both ends the same 3.5mm male?

Yes, both ends are 3.5 mm male. I use it to connect the headphone jack on my phone to the aux input in my car when the bluetooth isn't cooperating.

What's the length from the tip of the angled connector to the angle (i.e. how deep can i insert this connector) in mm?

The length is about 1". It works very well for Iphones with cases on them. You will be able to plug it in and not have to take your case off. I hope this helps.
