Do you need to connect the USB to the GPU, or can connect it to the MOB?

the USB plugs into usb port on the motherboard but it is just for use as power could plug it into a usb wall plug with a usb extension usb male male to female plug if you did not have that and the display port plugs into the GPU or motherboard need a display port though.

Will this adapter go to 144hz on 1920x1080 monitor?

Yes it works fine with my GTX 1080ti on a 24" Acer I get 144hz at full native rez

What cable do I need to connext tbis adapter to the external screen?

The USB cable is needed to draw power from the PC host to power the adapter, along with the Displayport cable.

I had no problems connecting my Apple Cinema 30" with dual-channel DVI to a new Delll Precision laptop.

Does this box allow you to use Nvidia 3D Vision through the Display Port with a 3D Vision ready monitor?
