Is this an Active Adapter? or a passive? I've been mislead by item titles before

I do not know for sure, but I suspect that it is active because mine heats up when I use it. It shuts down and the screen goes blank when it gets too hot. If I unplug it and let it cool down, it will work again. I get about 1/2 hour of use before it overheats.

Will this run at 60 MHz on a 2k monitor?

Hi Jeremy P, I had trouble with this adapter in fact I purchased two and neither worked for very long with my HP 25 inch 1080P or full sized 40 inch 1080P, I am using an ATI Firepro V8800 with 12 core, 24 gig RAM, Windows 7 workstation platform. So I purchased the correct dongle which is USB powered through the AMD ATI firepro site and noticed they do have a certified 4K dongle that works. I would recommend the USB powered Dongle for larger screens.
