I have a video card with hdmi or dvi output and a monitor with a vga connectin. Will this help convert digital into analog for me?

I've been using this for several months now with that purpose, and it has been doing its job quite effectively.

A bit of advice: Don't use the little USB power cord that comes with it. I used it, and Windows 8 kept trying to shut it off to save power (even though I told it to allow that one specific USB hub at all times). As a result, my monitor kept turning off its desktop display and provided a "no signal" error before going into standby about every 10-15 minutes. Removing the USB cord resolved that and I haven't had an issue since.

Question 2

I have a regular $5 DVI to VGA adapter that does not work.  Do I need this specific product to convert DVI D to VGA?  I am attempting to use 2 monitors...the first from the the comp. is VGA to a monitor with VGA and DVI D, the 2nd is from the DVI D output on the first to the VGA on the second.  Is this even possible?

Brian,  This product will convert DVI-D to VGA. It is an active device with circuitry built in.  That being said, to run 2 monitors from 1 computer, they both have to be connected directly to the computer.  You cant connect the first monitor to the computer and the second monitor to the first. The connections on the monitors are input connectors only.

You may want to use a USB to VGA adapter to run your second monitor directly from the PC.

I need somthing to connect a laptop with only VGA or USB output to a new LG 25UM65-P monitor that has only DVI-D in.  Will this converter cable work?

This device will not work as you desire.  You need a VGA to DVI adapter not a DVI to VGA one.

I just bought a video card with only digital outputs and I'm having a problem where the EDID contains the wrong maximum resolution information for the monitor which results in drastically reduced picture quality. If I use this adapter, and if I'm correct, it should disable the systems ability to communicate with the monitor regarding incorrect EDID information, and thus allowing me to select the correct native resolution manually. I've always used the VGA input on my monitor from a DVI-I to VGA adapter without any problems.

Does anybody know if the computer can still read the IDED information from the monitor while using this adapter, or has anybody used this adapter for the same circumstance?

Make sure ur video card is compatible first. this is dvi-d and not dvi-i. Dvi-i has more pins which enable it to carry analog signal as well. Dvi-d carries only digital signal so u need a seperate speaker for sound.
If ur card is compatible it should display the resolution u currently have for ur monitor perfectly. Hope this helps.

will this work for this scenerio. i have a dell laptop with a dell docking station with 2 DVI-D and one VGA port im hooking up a dual monitor setup with only vga plugs on the monitors. so i need to convert one of the dvi-d to vga?

The adapter works as described.  You need to check your laptop specs to see if it supports two external monitors as well as internal screen.. Usually they only support one.  Adapter however works fine on my Desktop.  Color is not as crisp after conversion, but very acceptable for everyday computing.  Don't recommend for gaming. If gaming.. Buy the DVI monitor and do it as designed.

i'm a little confused...I definitely have a dvi-d port but the description for this product is saying 19 pins...I thought dvi-d was 24+1 pins?
