I am looking to use an older keyboard I have on a newer computer that does not have the PS/2 slots.  I was told I could buy an adapter like this and use it.  However, when I read all the reviews that said it doesn't work, I started to wonder.  The only review that was helpful was the one below.  How do I know if my old keyboard "natively supports the USB cable protocol but uses a PS/2 connector by default"?  See in review:

This is intended for keyboards (such as many of MS's) that already fully natively support the USB protocol but use a PS/2 connector by default. Do not buy this if your keyboard is not made for this! On the other hand, if the keyboard already supports this, this adapter is a much cheaper method as well as far more direct and less troublesome since it doesn't need to rely on a third party between the system and the keyboard.

I am not sure how you can determine if your computer will support the usb protocol, but you can buy the following device and it will work on a computer without the protocol.  The device is: Startech usb to ps2 keyboard and mouse adapter, part # USBPS2PC.  I am using this device on an older computer and it works.  The specific device you want to buy, I wanted to use with a KVM switch and it would not work.  My advice would be to buy the device you listed and if it doesn't work buy the one I listed.  You could also go to the website of the mother board manufacture and possibly find out if it would work but I don't think you will find the data you need.  Dannie

I had the same problem.  I looked around at other reviews and responses and learned that these are not truly universal.  I assume that the more expensive ones are what would work, so just bought a new keyboard, at the price.  Not worth paying shipping to send the adaptor back to Newegg.
