Am I correct this unit will convert a SPDIF digital audio signal to out put left and right analog audio with RCA connectors?

That is correct. Which comes in very handy for almost all blu-ray players that only have an HDMI and a SPDIF connector output and you only have left and right stereo amplifier/speakers. (Such as you would have for a movie in the backyard type of thing.) However you will need to also setup your Blu-Ray player to output only stereo instead of surround sound.
