Does this device alone offer all that I need to remotely connect to a computer? Or do I need some sort of central device? Never bought such a thing before and I'd like to know more about this.... :c

Vague question.  It states that it is for a specific KVM switch.  That is a switch that lets you switch between computers and use one keyboard/mouse/monitor to control either or any of them depending on the switch setup.  This model uses ethernet cable.  Why?  Imagine you have computers in different rooms or at distance and want to control both (one at a time) via one keyboard monitor mouse location.  The switch lets you switch back and forth.  The ethernet cable lets you connect that switch when there is distance between those computers.  The normal switch (none shown) is usually connected when two computers are side by side or on top of one another.  The part shown is not a switch, it's a part that lets that particular switch connect to a computer via ethernet cable.
