Does this product have a separate power suppily for the drive? My computer doesn't provide enough power at max settings to power the drive itself.

Yes, it does have a separate power supply.  Surprisingly, I've been using it a lot more than I thought I would, especially where IDE drives are concerned. It'll also work with laptop HD's as well.  Personally, I consider this item to be 'money well spent'. Wish I'd gotten one sooner because it's made my work a lot easier. Hope this helps.

does the adapter plug in to a standard wall outlet ?

The one I ordered did. It was for a standard wall outlet in the US. We had ordered one previously through another website and received the European plug but it was an easy fix and we got the US plug when we ordered through newegg.

Is the StarTech USB2SATAIDE able to connect to IDE Aand SATA 5.25" optical drives?

This StarTech USB2SATAIDE device is used to connect IDE or SATA devices via USB to your computer. The main purpose being to connect drives externally when they would otherwise have to be mounted internally for use. The only option really is to to SATA to USB or IDE to USB. Hopefully this helps!

someone mentioned the sata data and sata power connections were close together and StarTech devices were too big to fit side by side
i have an external hard drive not being recognized with my new computer. it's barracuda 7200.11 320 bytes
Can you guarantee the devices will plug side by side? as it looks like there could be trouble with two connections trying to fit.

I would like to answer this question but I am confused. What two devices are you referring to? You only mention one ext HDD. What other device needs to be connected and to what? If you are referring to the adapter itself, that shouldn't be a problem. The cables are pretty long. If you mean a second device attached to the adapter, that shouldn't be necessary. Just work with one at a time.

BTW, you may have to just go into your computer's Device Manager to change the drive settings so it can be read.
