What size is the bracket? Is it full height or low-profile? I wonder if there is a way to rig it into a low-profile 2u server chassis.

It's form factor is ATX, not low-profile.

Sometimes I alter them here in the shop to make them fit.

First, you have to determine that the actual circuit board (sound card, etc.)will fit into the low-profile case. Most of the time it will work fine.

Now you have to fix the bracket so that it will secure the card into the case.

I just use pliers (although tin snips, sometimes called aviation snips would be much quicker) to bend part of the bracket back and forth until it breaks off then bend another 90 degree bend on the end, which will make it look like the original bracket but shorter.

If I remember correctly (but it's better just to measure it yourself) I break off (including the original 90 degree bend on the end; where the screw goes) about 2 inches and the new 90 is about 1/2 an inch.

If it's a Dell case or one like it, there's no need to make a screw hole because it doesn't use one, it uses the little bracket thing that kind of swings and clips, holding all the brackets in place.

However, a couple of times I have had to make accommodations for a screw to hold it. I either drilled it or used snips to cut kind of a tiny U shape in the appropriate place on the new 90 degree bend you just made.

I hope that helps you a little with your future endeavors that involve having a standard sized card that needs to go in a low-profile case.
