Question 1

I have a Dell desktop running Win 8.1 Pro with a motherboard that has an Intel H61 chipset, (a) which I understand does not support AHCI, and (b) is only SATA II compatible. I have recently purchased a 2.5” SSD and would like to make that SATA III compatible (and, if possible AHCI compatible as well). How may I achieve that? If I install this  PCI-Express 2.0 Controller Card (available on Newegg), into a PCI slot on my computer and then connect the SSD to this controller card (or to the motherboard, not sure what would plug into what), would it make my SSD, SATA III compatible? Also, would I need to upgrade the cable that connects the SSD to the motherboard/PCI controller card? Thanks.

you can use this card to upgrade your computer to sata III however you will only get the effective speed of sata III if your SSD is also Sata III, only devices connected to the pci cards Sata ports will be Sata III compatible, all other ports on your mobo will still stay Sata II, this is a great card overall, however it adds like 10 seconds to your POST so don't freak out when it hangs longer than usual after installing the card, post time may be decreased by changing the mode the card is in.

My motherboard has an Intel h61 chipset that only supports SATA II. Will this controller card over-ride the chipset restriction/limitation so it supports SATA III speeds of a solid state drive (SSD)?

DRAVID D:  Definitely yes!  As a more detailed answer given early today (5/9/14) on using the adapter card, SYBA SD-PEX40035 PCI-Express 2.0 SATA III (6.0Gb/s) Controller Card, and I also bought one.

Question 3

My motherboard has an Intel H61 chipset that makes the motherboard only SATA II capable and therefore restricts my SSD to SATA II speeds. Would this controller card, in effect, over-ride the H61 chipset limitation, to enable my SSD to achieve SATA III speeds?

Also, what kind of socket does this card use? Is it a PCI Express x1 socket? If so, why does it state PCI Express 2.0?
