Multi-Channel Sound Card Daughter Card 10-pin Flat Cable 11" Long User Manual Driver/Utility CD
Pros: Just works in modern linux distros.
Excellent sound. In fact, better sound than the Realtek onboard audio that this is replacing.
Cons: Does not come with low-profile brackets
Overall Review: Another reviewer said the daughter card is necessary. This is not so -- at least for optical out.
My mobo's onboard audio died, and this was a cheap way to get optical audio back up and running. Works perfecectly with the iec958 setting in XBMC. My case is low-profile, so I just bent the kr4p out of the bracket, and dremmelled a screw hole to make it fit.
This card doesn't like to wake out of suspend, so you need to reset it with a little script:
create /etc/pm/sleep.d/0_snd-ice1724 with these contents:
#!/bin/bash

Pros: Cheap, easy to install and the sound is very good for a $20 card. Sister card is a nice touch to run 7.1. Driver install took about 30 seconds in Windows 7.
Cons: Not really a Con but you need to be familiar with installing drivers off a disc and not expect Windows to automatically find them online for you. So if your not savvy to that, have someone help you. Then again, if your opening up a computer and installing a PCI-X card, you should at least have some sort of PC knowledge right?
Overall Review: Bought this to bypass the on-board audio on my parents home computer that stopped working in the right channel on the cheap. Wasn't about to buy a $100 Asus or Creative card for a PC that doesn't even have the speakers turned on 99% of the time.
This fixed the problem with no issues and restored audio out of both speakers like normal.
Not sure why people are complaining or making RMA's, I installed the driver from the disc using the search method and didn't even bother installing the audio software bloat and it works great.
As stated, it may not work in Windows 8. Who cares, Windows 8 is a step backwards to begin with.
Pros: It works right out of the box. It does exactly what I need it to do.
Cons: The Driver CD is small, I couldn't load it in the front load DVD drive I have.
Overall Review: Works well for what I need it to do. Good quality sound, I'm not using the daughter card, so I can't speak to that, but for a simple sound set up it works quite well. I had to download the drivers, because the small CD that came with the sound card wouldn't load in my front load CD drive.
Pros: - PCIe
- Cheap
- Works great with 5.1 surround speakers
- Great sound quality, don't hear any background hum or other noise that some of the cheap cards have
Cons: none
Overall Review: Windows 8 recognized the hardware and found the drivers on its own, without requiring the CD that came with the card.
All I needed to do was to go into the Windows sound config, and told it I had 5.1 surround sound speakers connected. Worked perfectly.
Great alternative for a dead on-board sound adapter.

Pros: This works perfectly as a 7.1 and plugs into a PCIe x1. My onboard went south. I needed a replacement. Inexpensive and works greats.
Slick.
Pros: Very small form factor, PC-e 1x slot requirement, and supported with Linux kernel 2.6.30
I got this card to put in an HP DL360 G5 running CentOS 6.4 KVM. There were no issue with the card itself fitting or aligning properly, kernel picked it up, auto loaded the modules and started ALSA.
My KVM guests now have full sound through VNC and SPICE.
Cons: It wasn't free
Daughter board for additional ports is a little annoying if you need those
Overall Review: YES it works in Linux, NO you don't need the driver CD.
Pros: Just works in modern linux distros. Excellent sound. In fact, better sound than the Realtek onboard audio that this is replacing.
Cons: Does not come with low-profile brackets
