Does this subscription begin at the time it is downloaded or from the time that the key is entered at Norton?

In all past installations (I have done this twice now), the subscription has started at the installation of the software on the first computer-not at the time of the download.  If, however, you don't install on the second or third computer right away, their subscription still starts when the installation on the first computer was performed.  So, essentially any delay on the second or third installation of the subscription is"lost" coverage time.

Question 2

How do I add this to a second PC?  it is asking for a license number...

You have to buy one with multiple licence's, or buy two separate ones with one license each.  They usually only come as one, five or ten. I do not remember ever seeing one with just two licence's.  You can still add a second one to your same account, but you have to buy an extra license.

Question 3

I already have this product installed, I just need  the key to renew. When you buy the download version, do they send you the key?

When I ordered the download option, I received 4 emails from Newegg:  Order Confirmation, Payment Charged, Software Confirmation, and Invoice.  The Software Confirmation email had the product key and the download link for the software.

Hopefully you still have that email, because it appears to be the only place that you can get the key.  I looked in my Newegg order history under that order, but the key isn't there.

does this come with a cd?

This does not come with a CD. This is a digital dl using activation keys. Be aware that one you use the key for one pc, the count down timer begins for the other two pc licenses.

Question 5

when using the downloaded version in the past I have had problems getting Norton IS on my other 2 units. does the key have to be entered on all 3 units? after getting the key do I have to go to Nortons' site to download for the other 2 units?

yes, you have to enter the key each time you install it.  However, you only have to register the first time. As to the download, I had a CD from a previous installation so didn't actually download it from the site.  If you were to download to a flash drive you could probably install from it on all 3 PCs.
