The Symantec Norton Partition Magic 8.0 software helps you organize your hard drive for maximum efficiency. Partition Magic lets you divide your hard drive into two or more partitions. Partitioning protects your computer and reduces data-loss in case of system crashes. This software enables you to copy, move, resize, split, and merge partitions as you want, without any loss of data. Partition Magic lets you run multiple operating systems on the same computer without any problems. The BootMagic technology makes it convenient to switch between different operating systems.

Intuitive Windows-based browser lets you find, copy, and paste files in both Windows and Linux partitions. Partition Magic lets you resize NTFS system clusters to the most competent size. It also allows you to enlarge an NTFS partition without restarting your computer. It supports USB 2.0, USB 1.1, and FireWire external drives, and FAT, FAT32, NTFS, Ext2, and Ext3 file systems. This software is capable of supporting operations on partition sizes as large as 300 GB, provided the partition is less than 90% full. It also features how-to wizards that help you understand (and also guide you through) the partitioning process.

Past Its Prime

Pros: Has worked wonders in the past at formatting and recognizing impossible hard drives.

Cons: Recognizes but refuses to format new Hitachi 2TB drive from Windows XP.

Overall Review: Maybe PM 9.0 will be better.

Good software

Pros: I bought this software so I can use the emergency floppy disks.

Cons: The software has too many errors and is unstable.

Stay away from this obsolete product!

Pros: - Usually works OK with Windows XP or older
- Friendly interface for Windows only users

Cons: Where do we start?
- for unknown reasons, PM can't always resize some partitions with no active files.
- even after successful repartitioning, PM may report error of unequal CHS and LBA values. So far, selecting 'fix it' hasn't resulted in disaster.
- PM cannot create a rescue (standalone) CDROM like most modern competitors.
- PM may not work with hard disks > 300 GB (may be the cause of above glitches)
- PM DOS based rescue disks do Not work if memory is 4GB or larger
- PM is not supported on Windows Vista or 7

Overall Review: If you purchase this product, the most important caveat is to BACKUP YOUR CRITICAL DATA before use.
There are many alternative, more modern products to investigate including the gparted program included on rescue CDs like Parted Magic.

ok for XP

Pros: Worked well when I used it. If your still on XP, and want to pay for partition resizer, this is your easy ticket.

Cons: Price increased. Vista and Linux don't need as they have a built in disc partition manager that resizes partitions just like this.
"Gparted" is cheaper, and easier, and the end result is the same. Now that Vista, and Linux(most distros) have their own partition managers, this software is outdated, and no longer needed.

Worked Great & Quick

Pros: Partition Magic worked like a charm. So quickly infact, that I wasn't sure it acutally changed the partition size, but low and behold it did.

Cons: None that I've experienced.

Overall Review: Read the Readme.txt and other instructions. Perhaps it's a lack of doing this that has contruibuted the problems some have experienced. But I've found Partition Magic to be top notch so far.

Great for what I needed

Pros: It was great for what I needed. I had not partitioned my hard drive effectively with not enough space in my C drive and tons on my D drive. Was very easy to use.

Cons: It took a little long to repartition everything which scared me that something was going wrong but it worked fine

Overall Review: Great product

Incompatible with Vista

Pros: This was a fantastic product when Symantec bought it from PowerQuest. It allowed you to partition drives, resize partitions, and shift partitions up or down to make room for adjacent partitions that need more space. It still does all this on Windows XP but...

Cons: It is not compatible with Vista. And as of today, there is no update for it on the Symantec website. I would have thought that a company like Symantec would have its act together and not still be selling software that is incompatible with the OS that comes on all the new consumer-level computers.

Overall Review: There are other third-party partitioning products that are Vista compatible. Your other option is to use the built-in partitioning functionality in Vista. However it's not as user friendly and has only limited resizing options.
