i never owned one of these but always wanted one to have more space on my pc how does it work do i need anything else or just this and it works over the internet from it ?

The Synology RX418 4-Bay Expansion Unit is designed to provide additional storage capacity by connecting it to a compatible Synology 1U NAS model via an eSATA connection. It does not work over the internet directly; you need to connect it to a Synology NAS which then can be managed using Synology DiskStation Manager (DSM). No additional software installation is required, as the drives in the RX418 unit operate as if they were internal to the connected NAS.
