How big is the scanning area? Is this a single line, or more of a fat line, or a swirl of lines?

Not sure how to answer.  I just see a straight line BUT I recommend you consider other products.  Our unit is used less than 5' from the transmitter and it only works now and again.  Checked with the developers of our application (reading shipping label bar codes) The wired scanner on the other POS is fine.

Is the scanner 2D or 3D?

Doubt if it is either.  Typical UPC codes are 1 Dimensional bars and spaces.  2 D barcodes such as QR codes, PDF 417, and the like are comprised of lots of little pixels.   I assemble a competing scanner for a US company.  It has up to a 500 foot range from the USB receiver.  It can be ordered as 1D or 2D.  1D sweeps a dot in a horizontal beam.  The 2D Illuminates a rectangular area and an imager (think camera), decodes the image and reads 1D codes as well.   3D   ? never heard of it in the 30 years I've been ''behind bars''.

Please help

I bought this scanner 2 days ago. I plug in the receiver, follow the instructions and when I start scanning, it does not out put anything to either notepad or excel or word. It doesnt do anything.

Tried on my new laptop with windows 8 and old laptop with windows vista.

I am able to get the green light on the scanner to turn on with the red scan light and does a beep but nothing happens.

How do I get this to work?

The one I bought just worked with both Windows 7 and XP.  I believe your Item may be defective.

Does this device work with Microsoft sharepoint?

Though I am not certain, as I am not familiar with Sharepoint, I can shed some light.  This device is very generic, and I would be surprised if it did not work with most softwares, canned or not.  For example, this device simply acts as a keyboard.  It is a virtual keyboard, meaning that when you scan something, it appears on the screen as if you typed it in via the  keyboard.  The code (numbers letters etc) that is represented by the bars in the barcode are output to wherever the cursor is placed in what ever progran you use.  I use it in an excel spreadsheet. You can adjust the scanner to deliver/simulate a line feed (i.e. hit the enter key) after each scan, thus advancing the cursor to the next cell in a spreadsheet, ready for the next scan.  Excel is easy to program to create searches etc.

Hello,

The functionality we are looking for is the ability to have flexibility in barcode scanner to device pairing.  We may have 3 or 4 workstations in a site but only 2 barcode scanners.  Ideally a technician could use any workstation and pair that scanner to it at the time of use.  Then while continuing work he could hand that same scanner off to someone else to use.  Does this scanner meet that requirement?

This issue that I have experienced is the following;
 1) I plug the scanner into a USB on the Notebook PC in order to  
     charge the scanners Battery (for 2.5 hrs)
 2) Then I plug in the wireless receiver into a second USB port on  
     the same otebook PC and the Scanner works just fine.
     But when I remove the scanner from the Notebook PC USB 
     port, the scanner does not work.
 
My conclusion is that the scanner is not wireless since it must be connected to a USB cable & port to function.

When scanning a barcode, does it transmit the read live? From scan straight to the spread sheet or I need to plug it in via USB to transmit the scan?

It's a simple barcode reader that works for a range of common linear barcode types.  It is not a 2D barcode reader.  Many organizations are moving towards higher density barcodes such as 2D.
