According the Trident 3's spec sheet it looks like an M.2 SSD is compatible but only if you have certain BIOS. Without knowing exactly what you have it hard to have a definite answer. Best I can give is a maybe since it is a compatible component but you will have to make sure what your running in your system.  Best to check the MSI website or call their customer service to be sure.

Someone has already supplied one answer so far.  First check to see if your mobo has a m.2 port that is configured the same as the drive you are trying to use (NOT ALL M.2 DRIVES ARE THE SAME).

will this work on a b450m steel legend?  I already have a 1tb HDD a 250gb 2.5" ssd i will be using for a build but i wanted to get this as a boot drive, or should i stick with what i already have?

This drive connects on the same SATA bus that your 250GB SATA SSD does, so it won't necessarily be any faster. You might be best to stick with what you have unless your SSD is really slow.

Would this work in the M2_1 Slot of a B450m Steel legend Mobo?  I already have a 1Tb HDD and a 2.5" Mushkin SSD (250Gb) that I will be using for a build, or is it better to stay with what i have?

Maybe.....There are a few different types of M2 drives. See if you can find the specs for your particular Mboard. If you can't then try to take a close up picture of the M2 connector to see what its notches look like. It will either be SATA or NVMe. If its SATA (which this drive is) then you are going to get about the same performance that you will from a 2.5' SATA SSD. If it is NVMe them look for a M2 NVMe drive because that interface is much 'wider' and you will get  even better read/write performance.  If you have NVMe you want to go with one for sure and make it your boot/system drive as things will be quite zippy.

If you have the proper adapter you MIGHT be able to use it as a SSD in the HDD Slot.  Otherwise I am fairly certain the answer is going to be NO.  You could try contacting HP support but those knuckleheads take forever to give you an "I don't know.  Let me transfer you to someone else."

I see pictured above even number of large Rectangle black on the strip, those the 256 Flash-NAND, a a square Phison S11 (Team SSD are S11) with no Low-Volt DDR3 memory cache (DDR3L are small rectangle shaped)

SSDs typically do not specify cashe like HDDs. They are fast enough on their own. This drive does support Intel Smart Response Technology and AMD MI Technology which makes the entire drive a cache for the slower HDD.
