This usb somehow became write protected and now it is useless. Anyone have this issue?

First, try to reformat with windows software. If that doesn't work, try recovery software such as EaseUS or others in case the USB drive was pulled from the computer too quickly after writing, or similar problems. If still non-responsive, send it back. Newegg is great in the support department. But for three bucks, I would just toss it in the air and see if I could 9mm drill it on the first try.

Can I use this to install windows?

Yes, you only need an 8GB usb to install windows. This appears to be as advertised, at least windows see's it as what it is advertised as. I have had no issue other than, where the heck is it now. It is sooooo small.

How does this work on the original Wii system??

Sorry I cannot answer your question since I do not own a wii, gamestation or any of those types, I only deal in laptops and desktop models, but the usb drive works fine for saving items to it at it's current 32 gig capacity.
