In what sense it this a "cap-loss free design "?  The cap appears flimsy, falls off readily, and does not appear to be attached in any secure way.

Beats me.  The cap does snap on. I guess the marketing dept feels it has to do something and turn a nothing into a big selling feature.   If cap-loss free design is the main thing your looking for, don't buy it.  I bought it  because of the brand, the specs and the price.

is this usb 2.0 compatible? Will it work with both older (usb 2.0) and newer (usb 3) ports?

Writing speed: 41.2 MByte/s
Reading speed: 94.2 MByte/s

Will this work with the Apple Lightning to Camera (female) USB adapter cable?

It didn't work on my iPad. The only USB flash drives I've found that work on iOS devices are the ones that include a Lightning connector. Those only work with the included app though. For example, if you buy a Lightning equipped Sandisk drive, you'll need to go to the apps store and download their app.
