Does it only read CF/SD/etc, or can it write to them also?

How long is the cable? With both the front and rear USB 3.0 ports placed right at the halfway up point on the case, I feel like this cable won't allow me to place the reader on the top of the case or down on the desk.

The wire is about 4 inches if you count the plug add another inch. so 4 to 5 inches. I am using it on a laptop plugged into a side USB 3.0 port Depending on your case the wire may be too short for desktop use. Newegg sells others that do have much longer wires and I don't have nay model numbers handy you can search or call them Hope this info helps

is windows 10 supported with this device? in the description it says it only goes up to windows 8

I don’t see why not.  It’s usb which is compatible with other usb slots.

Does it read and write or only read??

ANSWER = EVERY CARD READER I ever BOUGHT(ABOUT 25 DIFF. TYPES) since 1999 Writes and Reads.
Not sure, BUT I don't think they even make a Read ONLY memory card reader. Though there might be some Very Special types that Reads Only.

Without a doubt, I have been using this to read and write. In fact I bought it specifically to write on an empty SD card for my mp3 player, to expand the storage. Works just fine.

Question 5

How solid is the CF card slot? I bought a cheap one and there was play when inserting a CF card resulting in bent pins.

I bought two of these and haven't had any issues with the CF card slot. I've had these for close to two years now. The only weird thing is the CF card goes in what I would consider upside down. No big deal, but just doesn't feel natural when inserting it.
