Question 1

The internet cable is not staying clipped in. The Ethernet port latch I believe is not working to keep cable in. Would this product work instead ? Can I plug internet cable into this ?

The retaining clip is on the cable, and they're fairly fragile. I don't think you need this to solve your problem, but your question is vague. I suppose you could somehow have damaged your port but that is usually more robust than the cable.

This is a USB to gigabit Ethernet adapter, I use mine to upgrade my laptop's slow 10/100 port. Why Dell put a 10/100 on an i7 gamer laptop is beyond belief!

Will this work with USB 2.0?

YES it will. I actually expected the answer would be no, but I tried it on a computer that has only USB 2.0 ports, and it DOES work. I suspect it may not be able to achieve full GigE speed, though.

Question 3

Can I plug this into my 2.0 port and then be able to connect an external hard drive that requires a 3.0 port?

If I understand your question correctly you can plug this device into a USB 2.0 port and it will work fine; then you can use the external HD on any open port without conflict. I have two USB ports on my netbook and have never had issues with this plugged in and removable storage plugged in at the same time.

can I use this device to commect to my ethernet qand use a usb webcam remotely?

If I understand your question, the answer is "no."

This device permits a computer to connect to an Ethernet cable.    It would not work with stand-alone Ethernet devices (i.e. Axis camera).  On the other hand, if you have a laptop with integrated web-cam and wish to connect via Ethernet, then this could help you.

My use of this is specific-  I needed a 2nd Ethernet interface for testing.  Not likely the common use.

Is this adapter compatible with Windows 10? Are there Windows 10 drivers?

I am using this adapter with Windows 10 on a MacBook Pro running Bootcamp.  It just works any time I plug it in after the computer is running.  I would recommend this product.

Will this still work with windows 10?

Any drive will work with Windows 10.  I use this in Dell E5540 laptops with Win7 (BIOS) and Win8.1 (UEFI) and Win10 (UEFI)
You can use BIOS with 8.1 and 10, but UEFI boots faster and is more secure. If you have trouble installing Win10 with UEFI, turn the secure boot off until after the OS is installed.

I have windows 7, so I've never tried it personally. I was doing some research and it doesn't list Chrome OS as one of the supported operating systems. Maybe they've created a patch or custom to make it work, but until then, its not looking promising. Hope that helps.

Yes it will. If you have Mac OS X v10.6 or later it should work fine. I do not have a Mac so I can not test it. But I don't see why it wouldn't work.

Anybody used this with FreeBSD?  Is it compatible?  I am most interested in FreeBSD versions 9 and 10.

I haven't installed FreeBSD on this exact device but I've done a bit of BSD on systems that would accept this.  This device appears as a SATA disk on all the systems I've installed it on.  I've had no problem installing FreeBSD on mSATA, SSD, HDD, or m.2 devices. The only problem I've had installing FreeBSD is on eMMC disks.  These are typically storage that's soldered onto mobos of PC-on-a-board PCs.  I've had similar issues with CentOS, as well on eMMC.
