I have a Samsung Smart TV. That being said, the Skype app is not available or compatable with the TV. Is this an "all in one" camera with the Skype app pre-installed? Also does this have a microphone or do I need to purchase that separately? Thanks in advance for answering this.

Hi Diane. It is a all-in-one standalone unit (with Skype built-in) and just need a TV with HDMI port. The microphone is built-in. The TelyHD will not take advantage of your Samsung Smart TV functions, just the HDMI connection no different than a standalone DVD player or game console.

For my use case: My 81-year-old mother uses the TelyHD with a separate 15-inch LED TV, since she could not remember how to swtich HDMI ports on the TV's remote. A PC with Skype TV would be too complicated for her unless I set the PC on "kiosk" mode running only Skpe. Just make sure you set your Skype security setting to "Contacts Only" so that only your Skype contacts can do a video call to you (and use a strong password for your Skype account).

looking for a very very simple device for my 93 year old mother to answer calls and sometimes make them. How simple is this device to use?

It is not complicated to setup and operate, but someone might have to set it up and accept the users that will be calling her.  It can also be set to automatically answer one particular caller automatically without clicking accept call.   Furthermore, sometimes, if it gets disconnected and loose the settings, you will need to log into the account again (type in the user name and password) to get back in.  Otherwise, as long as she have a TV with a HDMI input, she will need to click into that HDMI input channel to be able to see the incoming call or place a call.

It has other features, like zoom etc.. but if you set it up in a way that she will be sitting a particular place and set up the camera in the correct angle, she will be good.

Can I plug headphones/mic into this? I do not see a headphone/mic jack on it and there is no close-up picture of the rear of the device.

There is no direct headphone or mic jack on this system.  On the back of it you have SD card slot, Power, HDMI port, CAT5e port, USB (2.0 I believe), and a jack port same as a smart phone.  It has a built in microphone.  I imagine you want to see about using this and not bother others by hooking head phones and external microphone, If there is a way it is not at first very apparent.  Contacting Tely Labs directly may be your best bet.

No on video. TelyHD does not support Skype group calling in video mode, only audio. This is a Skype limitation, not the TelyHD.

I have a Vizio 60+ inch TV... I can get skype but nobody can hear me on the other end.  I plugged my laptop into the HDMI port and got visual, again no sound on my end.  Do I need this peice of equipment or just a microphone?  Thank you for your time in replying!

your problem is a driver/microphone issue. If you want to do Skype without your computer at all then this is the device for you.
