Question 1

My cpu should take about 84w, and im planning on getting two geforce650 ti boost sli cards, (i believe there about 130-140w each) will this guy be enough to run my rig?

Short answer: it will run your system, but you won't have any headroom for overclocking. If you want to OC at all, get the 700 watt.

I ran the TR-600 PSU for a little while feeding a 65W CPU and a HD 6990 (which is essentially a pair of HD 6970 190W GPUs in crossfire). Although the current ratings on this PSU are technically high enough for the 6990, the wire gauge doesn't let you feed 30+ amps to a GPU without the wires getting really warm. If you want to feed over 300 watts to GPUs, go bigger.

I am now using this PSU to power a single 6970 with a little overclock, and it runs perfectly. That GPU is pulling about 225W with no issues.

Question 2

This is currently my PSU that I'm trying to salvage for my new rig, My GPU will take up 450w and my CPU 95w, So I'm ranging around 585/590w in total use, I'm just wondering if it's a big deal if my watt usage is that close to my PSU's max?

Hey Nathan,

Just a heads up, if those two components you listed are correct you will be right around 585 like you said... However, you must take into consideration that your motherboard, fans and HDD's/SDD's still require power... Generally, I add an extra 100watts to my power output when I buy a PSU... So if you add 585 to 100, you'll have 685 watts at a full load; so you'd be much safer going with a 700w psu.

hey, i bought this a few days ago and tried to install it in my dell inspiron 531 and nothing happens. when i try to turn on the pc, no lights come on or anything, it seems dead. i know nothing is wrong with my pc because i hooked up my old psu to see if it'll turn on and it did and everything worked. one of the reasons why i wanted a new supply is that my old one was going out. my computer would randomly shut off over time. can anybody help me with this issue? thanks!

i think i might have to send it back then because i've tried everything. the voltage is set for 115 on the back, i made sure all of the plugs are connected securely, it also has a 8 pin connector which can be separated into 2 4 pin connectors to plug in the board, i only need one and i plugged that in for the cpu and i made sure the 24 pin connector was connected good also. also, i made sure that the psu toggle switch was set to the "I" position. thanks for your help though! leave it to me to get a brand new psu that's a defect, lol

Does the unit vent into the case or out the back?

I have a corsair now that vents into the case and causing my cpu to overheat.

Out the back. Scott, it is designed to pull cooler air from the bottom of your case. if you installed in the right side up, Id be surprised if you didn't have cooling issues. Granted, you have to keep up on keeping the bottom case intake clean, but I do just blow out the interior of the CPY and the Power Supply. Make sure you stop the fans from turning, otherwise depending to the fans, you might damage them, bearing fans sleeve fans or hydro fans.

what are the dimensions of this power supply (H, W, L)?

I'll be installing this power supply in a Dell XPS 420 case.

This power supply has standard ATX mounting. It has different case dimensions that the Dell power supply but the bolt pattern is similar and it should fit OK. It will leave a gap at the bottom of the case opening for the supply, as the dell supply is about 1\2" Taller.

It should solve your power requirement.

Question 6

I know it says 20+4 pin the motherboard i picked out has a 24 pin, does this have another 4 pin somewhere for the CPU power? or does the 4+4 plug come apart so i can use just one 4 pin

The 20+4 part of the description just refers to the 24-pin ATX connector being segmented in case you need to support an older 20-pin board.  You will be fine with this one.  Regarding the 4-pin 12v CPU connector, yes, it is a 4+4 design, so you'll be fine there as well.

System works like a champ.  This PSU replaced a Corsair VX430 when we upgraded her GT440 to the 7870 to give some extra headroom.  No complaints so far.  (5 months, 24/7 uptime)

Could this replace my SolyTech ATX 400W Switching Power Supply?

When I replace a power supply; I look at the motherboard to be sure that the new/replacement power supply meets the standards my motherboard requires.
The second thing I look at is the physical dimensions of my current Power Supply.

If all you care about is raw wattage; yes, 600 watts will replace a 400 watts and draw more current to do so.

Hi newegg has a P.supply calculator( go to computer/pc hardware- psu*) there you will tell wat cpu you have ram memory hard drive etc. If you are concern about cable reach, on my exp it depends a lot on your specific arrangement, but i have installed 3 diff ones and never had problems an when i do have a psu flip helps.

The video card I am looking at wants 30 amps minimum of the 12v rail. This one has two 12v rails but am I correct in that they output 23 amps and 20 amps? Would I be able to run that card?

A video card at 30 amps, I would go for a more powerful supply.

And everything runs smooth. My card is 24amps. 
While I am pleased with this supply as well as this manufacturer, certain games crash during gameplay. I should've picked a bit more powerful supply so with that said I would spend a few extra dollars on your power supply.
