Pros: Good Performance for $$$
Quick Boot Times
Decent Screen Quality (Anti-Glare)
Cons: Speaker Quality
Overall Review: I purchased this Samsung as an early Christmas gift for my girlfriend who happens to be a teacher. She was desperately in need of a new laptop since her previous one had kicked the bucket recently.
I spent forever looking for a machine that had decent specs from a brand I was okay with and finally found this one with a great price and rebate offer.
She likes the machine. One of the main reasons I purchased this particular model was the AMD video card. She likes to dabble in a little gaming (Primarily Sims 3). Works as well as expected for word processing and web surfing.
I personally dislike Windows 8, but she tells me she's getting used to it.
The only negative note is the speaker seems to be blown out of the box, anything past 18 (out of 100) volume level sends lots of crackling audio. This product wasn't eligible for Newegg's RMA process, so I haven't replaced it. She can't be without a computer, especially not having one for a month before. Advance RMA was off the table, and I will probably end up contacting Samsung when the school year dies down a bit. Never had any issue like this before.
Pros: -Core i5 3210M
-AMD HD 7730M 2GB
-Full keyboard layout (Num pad)
Cons: -No scroll up or down on the mouse pad
-5400 rpm HDD
-Not A LOT of bloatware but still too much
Note: With Windows 8 now using bios to store your OEM key you can easily obtain Windows 8 download from Microsoft and install Windows 8 (core edition and or what ever edition your computer came with) and it will not ask you for a key, it will auto detect your key loaded in your bios and activate once you get to your desktop so say goodbye bloatware. Remember if you need drivers after a fresh install just visit your manufacturers site under support to obtain your drivers after selecting your model.
Overall Review: Perfect laptop and first purchase of a Samsung laptop, its has everything i was looking for with its i5-3210M, AMD HD 7730M 2GB Card and full keyboard layout support!
Plays every game i throw at it (med to high settings with modded drivers ).
Note: used Leshcat’s Catalyst 13.1 WHQL UnifL for AMD+Intel Laptops, when you buy laptops most of the time your limited to manufacturers drivers but Leshcat drivers allows for MOST AMD+Intel laptops to run up to date driver for your GPU's with no issue, use your friend Google if you wanna know more about it.
Thank you Samsung! you did good!!
Pros: Price for the graphics card. Runs games on High. Has the 3rd gen i5. Sturdy keyboard, nice keyboard layout. Touchpad has 2 full buttons.
Cons: No indicators if caps or num lock is on. Back lid could be a better material, may be prone to scratches.
USB Ports are tight first time use.
Low hard drive space but who needs that much anyway.
Overall Review: So what if it has windows 8, just install classic shell. As far as having problems with the graphics card not switching from the Intel 4000 to the 7730, just right click on the desktop and assign the high end graphics to the particular application. Also if roll back to a later OS, use the windows 8 sidebar and go to settings, change PC settings, general, and then adv startup.
Pros: Core I5 3210M
6 GB ddr3 at 1600 Mhz
2GB AMd Radeon Hd 7730m
Cons: Avg res screen 1366x 768
Build looks better than it feels, Creaks and bends a little but i guess that is to be expected
Overall Review: I got mine for 550 with Promotions and coupons, at that price it was a steal but for the retail price of 750 i would suggest looking elsewhere because you can get a better deal.
i ended up downgrading to windows 7 and got a slight fps boost in hitman absolution and crysis 2.
Nfs most wanted was unplayable in windows 8 with around 10 fps but with windows 7 i get around 30 fps maxed out. dont know why but that issue was isolated to that game.
My Windows experience index score is
cpu 7.1 ram 7.5 graphics 5.9 gaming graphics 6.8 harddrive 5.9
with the graphics using the intel hd 4000 instead of amd gpu. i would suggest upgrading drivers as soon as you get it for maximal performance.
I have a background in compsci and really did my research before i bought this and for the price of 550 this was a solid deal but for 750 there are better deals
Pros: Pretty beefy graphics capabilities, I've been able to run Borderlands 1 and Fallout New Vegas on high graphics with no problems.
Feels pretty light and the battery life is decent, even when watching movies
Cons: I've been running into issues getting the keyboard and trackpad to wake up after sleep/hibernate. Every now and then I'll open my laptop which wakes it from sleep mode, but the keyboard and trackpad will be unresponsive and can only be fixed from a hard reset.
The only spot on the case that heats up is on the left side, i.e. where your wrist rests for WASD, which is a bit unfortunate for gaming. It'd be fine if the right side heated up and the left stayed cool but this is not a huge deal i guess.
The trackpad and mouse buttons are a little cheap feeling and not as sensitive as I would prefer. Compared to the awesome trackpad on my asus, the one on this machine feels a little crummy.
Overall Review: The colors seem a little blown out compared to the displays of other computers I use. I'm not sure if it's the samsung screen or the settings in win8. There are display "themes" you can play around with, but it was pretty drastic at first before I got used to it.
Pros: Dedicated graphics, nice screen res, light, compact.
Cons: None really.
Overall Review: Win8 takes some time getting used to. It's not a con, OS is just different.
Graphics set up isn't great. You cant turn integrated GPU off and run everything on a dedicated card. You have to select "power" or "performance" for each app, where "power" means integrated and the other is dedicated GPU. Once again, it was a bit frustrating until I figured that out. Not an issue anymore.
Pros: i would just like to note that the two bad reviews on here make no sense. Its a laptop the 2.4 ghz is really high actually also widows 8 isnt a con everything runs it. and every product occasionally arrives DOA (dead on arrival) it is part of buying electronics.
Cons: just making a point
Cons: Extremely flimsy construction. The laptop arrived with defective keyboard/trackpad that do not work. I am unable to return this laptop now, but only replace it with the same, terrible model. Please, stay far, far away from this model. I was under the impression that Samsung created great products, but that view is now seriously tarnished.
Also, the price of this laptop has dropped $100 from the time I ordered it. I can only assume this is due to all the returns of this terrible product.
