How can I acquire the Windows activation key for this item?
It doesn't come with a sticker on the bottom, like most others
do.

It doesn't contain any activation key. Once you have laptop connected to internet. you can go in PC setting and activate the window without a key..

Once windows is activated, Update all the drivers and windows update.  
Then Final step is to create the restore DVDs using the Pre-installed software.

The HD in my Toshba C55T is a Toshiba MQ01ABF050 drive.  "geeks"   says that this drive is a 500GB SATA/300 5400RPM 8MB 2.5" hard drive.

How many sticks of memory come with the laptop? Can not find any information if there are two slots or one or if it comes with 2 4gb sticks or just one 4gb stick

There is one slot.  It comes with a 4 GB stick, but you can replace it with an 8 GB stick.

I can say hands down this is the best purchase I've made in a very long time.

The actual viewing screen size about 13.5  x  7.5

weight?  I'm not sure, whatever the specs say.   But I can tell you compared to my old Dell its very light, thin and easy handle.

I do web development and graphic design on it and the screen size is just fine.

My first PC with Win 8.1 and may be last.Can I dump 8.1 and
install Windows 7 in this PC?

Hi Frank,

That issue never came up for me because I really like windows 8.1. I have a similar computer(an asus) which runs windows 7 and even tho it has an I5 intel it's alot slower. I also like the touch screen a whole lot    too . The ONLY ISSUE that I've run into was that I needed to change the 4gb1600 mhz Ram card out to a 8gb ram card. I replaced the one card with a Kingston and the computer works faster boots up right away and just better overall. Windows and Norton together are memory hogs. As to your original     question..I'm not really sure but, logic dictates windows should be downward compatible. Sorry I couldn't be more help!

Yup...It's a touch screen. Works pretty good too. Keep a microfibre cloth around for fingerprints tho.

Great buy, for a backup.  That was my purpose, anyway, but it just went dead one night.  short story shorter I pulled the hard drive and reconnecting it fixed it.  What can help keep the hard drive secure?

9 chances out of 10, it was nothing more than a loose connection from shipping. If the hard drive was pushed in properly, you should hear a faint click. This means that it secured itself into place. I hope this helped. :)
