Killer Laptop that dominates all 3/25/2009 3:09:09 PM

Pros: I have one just like this but a slightly older model. It will manhandle any high-end games like Crysis or World of Warcraft without a hitch. The sound on this laptop is amazing. Most people at the college crowed around it to gauk and watch whatever move i'm watching at the lounge due to its near tv like output. Most laptops have a low quality sound system.. this blows all the competition away.

Gaming performance is outstanding. 50+ FPS in Unreal Tournament 3, always above 30 FPS in WoW at any zone or instance on max graphics and shadows. Show's no signs at this time of being low to today's games.

Wireless downloading is pretty fast depending on what your downloading. Some bigger files take more than others however the biggest file i've downloaded was 3.6gb and it took about an hour and a half which imo is fast for wireless.

Battery life IMO is good if you use the right battery settings when needed. I get about a hour and a half gaming or watching a movie on battery.

Cons: The lid color.. Im not a big fan of it but as someone stated before.. EVERYONE stares and gauks. Get's kind of annoying.

Other cons is the touch pad is kind of meh, you can't really scroll down like i could on a HP Laptop i used to own however, i don't REALLY use the touch pad as much as i do use my Logitech G5 laser.

Overall Review: A bit to much gloss. Finger prints are SOOOO annoying. The two speakers on the bottom are a bit annoying sense my wrist always covers the left bottom speaker when i type...

Wish it came with a 500-750gb Hard Drive cause this just isn't enough space for me.. But! I guess when you install like... 15 games and about 30 movies.. somethings bound to happen.

The display drivers released by Toshiba suck but thanks to laptopvideo2go.com they make this comp murder the competion harder.

Awesome Gaming Notebook 3/15/2009 9:53:17 AM

Pros: Boots quick, runs every game i throw at it.

Cons: Heavy, Battery life is poor, but hey, it's a desktop replacement. The only reason I gave it a 4 is the battery life could be a little better.

Overall Review: I'd buy it again.

Close to perfection 3/6/2009 10:02:53 AM

Pros: There is a pluthora of pros to list, so I'll keep it short:
*Dual 9800M GTS run cool yet hawt!
*DDR3... well.. just works great
*7200 RPM Drive outperforms other laptops
*Esata port for blazing backups
*HDMI output, a rarity on laptops
*TruBrite display is amazing
*Sound system impresses!
*Wireless N never fails
*Came from the Egg fast as always!

Cons: Few cons here from my perspective:
*Weighs a ton (I do move it occasionally) ~10 lb.
*The flashing lights are a tad distracting while gaming
*Does get very hot after extended use (4+ hours)
*Lid paint job is too flashy for my taste, but this might be a pro for others (everyone stares)
*Price... it was a tough decision, but is totally worth it
*Not enough USB ports! My desk is a mess with cables and hubs for all my USB devices. I have to have my USB headset, mouse, keyboard, MP3 player, jump drive, camera and digital photo frame connections! The PSU in this baby can handle it, give us the ports!

Overall Review: This is one of the only laptops I would honestly call a gaming system. Toshiba took this system in the right direction with the quality of the display, video processing power, audio quality, and top rate interfaces. I can't wait to see improvements in the future!

Pros: Underrattedly quick shipping! Love the new gear! All these shiny keys, lights and numbers and barely anything to use them with.

4.5/5 Appearance

4/5 Power

5/5 Sound

5/5 Possibilities

Cons: The lid's 'Ferrarri Red' Paintjob pulled the rating back. I thought the whole thing would have had a more enthralling affect if it were gloss black and you open it to the Beatiful keyboard bordered by the red trim and four speakers.

Overall Review: Overall a great buy. Could have came with a stronger processor. Haven't really been able to test out the dual graphics cards but my test material is in the mail. Also, since the internet connection here is horrible, I haven't been able to completely test the internet processing speeds.

power platform 2/14/2009 6:17:32 AM

Pros: a lot of bang for the buck, plays all my games except for crisis in excellent video settings, great sound, awesome exterior, keyboard is worth cleaning everyday, and surprisingly able for the 2.26 ghz processor

Cons: dust collector, short battery life in performance mode, and I had one small instance when the screen blacked out on me. It was only once, and a restart fixed it.

Overall Review: I would have sprung a little more for a better processor, but this is definitely the best deal out there for my gaming and media use. My friend bought the same 706 series, but his device manager claims his 706 contains the duo extremes for some reason.

Phenominal laptop 1/12/2009 2:46:55 PM

Pros: After shopping around for a gaming laptop I stumbled upon the Toshiba Qosmio Q706. The first thing that jumps out at you is the hardware under the hood (especially the dual 9800M GTS's). Having run sli in my desktops for years now I know the benefit of utilizing two graphics cards for gaming. I was considering purchasing a more expensive brand with a single 9800M GTX but knowing dual 9800M GTS's in sli mode outguns it attracted me to this Toshiba. The 320gb 7200rpm hdd is a nice touch and a step up from the usual 5400rpm drives you find in most laptops. 4 gigs of ddr3 memory is also a welcome addition as again most companies are still running ddr2. Sound system absolutely rocks with 4 Harmon Kardon speakers and a built in sub-woofer....nothing else out there even compares! The real treat comes in the form of a 17" WSXGA+ monitor. From the moment you fire this machine up the first thing you notice is how black the background is which makes the colors standout with such richness. Price.

Cons: very few here but there are some. The 2.26ghz P8400 is a very capable processor for most applications but running some of todays graphically intense resourse hungry games tends to bog down the system. I've noticed some slow down and chugging while playing Far Cry 2 on high settings....this is not an issue on my desktop which sports a 3 ghz E8400 as well as dual 9800 GTX's in sli mode. In my opinion the 9800M GTS's are capable of handling this game but the cpu is what holds it back. Perhaps Toshiba should have put the faster 2.53ghz cpu in instead. Slight hestitations were also noticed while playing COD4 but immature drivers could be the reason for that and an update should fix it. Some might complain about the weight of this laptop but considering another name for a gaming laptop is a desktop replacement you're not going to be sporting this baby around town.

Overall Review: This is by far and away one of the most strikingly beautiful laptops on the market.....kudos to Toshiba. From the moment you unpack this beauty you're treated to a custom ferrari red paintjob that sports flames on the outside cover of the monitor. Upon opening the lid ones jaw drops to the ground as you are treated to a visually stunning and breathtaking sight. The top panel is done up in a custom metallic red with gloss black trim that will send your friends home green with envy. Designer grill covers overlay the lower speaker array and the top speakers are adorned with red lights that light up when the system is turned on. I've seen many a laptop but none come close to this one in appearance. Toshiba sure has done it's homework and hit this one out of the park with it's Qosmio line. For power, looks and value.......you can't do any better than the Q706!

Great Laptop! 12/28/2008 2:56:13 PM

Pros: This is an excellent set of hardware especially for the cost. Very clear and vivid display, great for gaming and high end computing.

Cons: Heavy and Don't bother calling for tech support as they have no clue what they are doing.

Overall Review: I have noticed several people complaining about running games on this laptop and it may have a lot to do with the power settings.

For those users that are trying to get dual displays to work at the same time you need to make an advanced adjustment to the power plan under GPU and set "NVIDIA Hybrid SLI" to save power. This will then allow you to clone or extend your desktop onto a 2nd monitor.

Likewise... if you are having trouble with playing games and cannot seem to get SLI mode to engage you may want to make sure that "NVIDIA Hybrid SLI" has been set to "Boost Performance".

Apperntly not for noobs 12/25/2008 1:28:09 PM

Pros: Laptop is perfect.
I have read some of the reviews here and people need to really read the material before they try using this laptop.
They obviously don't understand where to get updated drivers(these cards are new, beta drivers come out every 3 days for them..you must keep them updated and NOT from Toshiba's site)
SLI works perfectly
Vista is a little lame taking up a TON of HD space but you have a lot more than a TON
Memory is quick and lots of it.
Sound system is amazing.

Cons: Dust collector..you can see any spec of dust. Too bad didn't come in white instead of black keyboard.

Overall Review: Like I said, to use this product, You MUST learn to read the product data sheets. That is what they are there for.
I have setup everything on the laptop. From Mouse drivers(mx518) to bluetooth and webcam and even voice recognition software..This thing is a BEAST!!

I don't like vista even tho i took off UAC so i have all the power.

But like I said..Not for noobs who don't know how to work with computers.
Video cards had to be setup properly. and I had to setup my own power options..or it would stick in 9400M mode.(ofcoruse I read and figured it out) so don't fail..and read!!!
