Yes, it works. I don't recall how far they say it extends, but it allowed me to get a wifi signal through my whole house (where I had trouble before) and into my back yard (near my house).

Does the installation include a CD? My pc has no CD drive so wondering

It self installs, no cd required. If you have an older PC like Windows 7 you may have to download the software from TP-Link support but that too is not hard. You NEVER need a CD these days.
