Yes.  I can't recall if I had to load a driver but works fine for Win 8.1 and Win 7 Pro 64 bit

Does this adapter being USB 3.0 mean it won't work if plugged in to a USB 2.0 port?

I have it plugged into the 3.0 USB, BUT i don't think it means you can't use it, i think it just means that it would work better if used with 3.0.

but that being said....this is AWESOME. it's fast, AND the extension cord allows me to get amazing signal.

Yes it is compatible.  I have Windows 10 and I am using that part on my computer right now to go online, with no problems at all.

will this work for my recently updated  desktop computer? I also have a HP stream that I use too will there be any trouble or interference between the two?

I see no reason why you should have any issues. I have been using this adapter for about a year and as long as the firmware and drivers are kept up to date I have had no problems. Worked just fine on Windows 8.1 and I have had no problems using it with Windows 10. Don't see why HP Stream would interfere for any reason.

What is the length of the included extension cable?

The item description notes: "w/ USB Extension Cable for flexible deployment". This will allow you to place the adapter, for example, on your desk, to get possible better reception.  I was just wondering about the length of this cable.

this unit does not recognize my internet network connection with y Vista.  is there something special that needs to be done?

The software and drivers you need are on the small blue CD included with the adapter you purchased. The name on it is Resource CD. There is also a Quick Installation Guide included.

Does it work with linux, to be specific kali linux?

I got it working under Kodi. After a quick search, I was able to find the driver for 8812au chipset for Kali so it should work, tho it's not on tested device list from a forum:

All the above using the same chipset.

Do I get the latest version of this TP Link Adapter if I order now?

This adapter has not changed since the 2014 but, the drivers will change.  The best way to probably prevent any issue is to first use the CD and load the basic program on the computer.  It will then ask you to update and that is when you can update the drivers.  As for the item it is still going to be the same 2014 model.  If they come out with any newer version it would have a different serial number for the model.

Mine stopped getting 5G signals, while my other devices still can, any idea?

I assume that you are using TP-Link as your wireless configuration manager. Open it up and verify that the 5G network is listed and you are connected to it. My TP-Link has been working perfectly for over a month now but some of my other devices (I-Pad, Acer computer, etc. occasionally revert to 2.4G for unknown reasons. perhaps the 5G signal from the router disappears for a short period and these devices reconnect to the available 2.4G network. At any rate, the 5G notwork has always been available so I reconnect to it and I'm back in business at the 5G speed.

Question 10

My first question is can I install this device onto my laptop if I don't have a CD drive? My second question is does this product have good range? I have my router in my basement and I have my laptop set up in my room which is two floors above my basement

Yes, you can install this without a CD drive.  If drivers are needed you can go to the MFG web site and download them from there.

Range is relative, it was good for me, my router is in the basement and the computer was on one floor above, ymmv.

I installed an internal AC wireless adapter and no longer needed  this, but it did work great.
