I know this device is USB 3 but does it work with USB 2? I wanted to make sure.

It works on my USB 2 and 3 machines.  It seems to use the USB 3 to increase its speed, as I thought it would, though it is still very fast on USB 2.

My son is currently using it as I am typing this on windows 10...yep works great on windows 10. been over 3 months now and he loves this for wireless..If you get a AC router this will bring you amazing wireless speeds well over 300 as well..

Does this adapter support AP mode?

No.

It is essentially a  device which converts wireless signal to USB. Drivers move USB signals back and forth to the IP stack.  So it's point-to-point to your PC once it picks up the wireless beacon.

It might obviate the need for a wireless extender or a closer access point, because in my experience this antenna is pretty good; much better than the one built in to my laptop.  But it does not have any AP capabilities.
