One review said this product is good "for those who need minimal wireless" - what if you plan to mainly use the wireless to stream tv and run on laptop (daily)?

We have had this router for over a year, and use the wireless on two to three devices on a time on a daily basis, and have never had any issues with the wireless.

Does it have any security features?

You can and should change the default password to a customized password to prevent others from seeing your network. Other than that I do not know what other safety features a modem could have.

it doesn't look like it but does this have a connection for the phone line? I have phone service through comcast and would need my modem to work with that also.

No it does not have the phone connection. There appears to be no escape from Comcast modem. It was listed as a xfinity option. A big disappointment

does this work with charter?

Yes. It is. Simply hook it up and call Charter and give them the MAC Address of it and it will work great. I tested it for Charter especially.
