TP-Link MR3020 5/23/2017 5:21:06 AM

Pros: Came quickly (from Hong Kong)

Cons: The plug-in adapter it came with has a UK plug and is not usable in the US. Luckily it was just a USP power cube. The router has very slow speed throughput. My 25 meg service is slowed to about 3-4 meg down and 1 meg up. Too bad the performance does not match the nices size and design.

Manufacturer Response:
Hi, thanks for your review and feedback!

If you’re purchasing a TP-Link product for use in the US, we recommend ensuring the model and version are designed for the US region. In your case, if the product is designed for the UK market, please bear in mind that Wi-Fi regulations and standards in the UK are different than those in the US, which is most likely causing the Wi-Fi performance issues you’re experiencing.

We suggest adjusting the Wi-Fi channel settings in the router to a range within the US Wi-Fi spectrum.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to e-mail USSupportTeam@TP-Link.com and a Support Agent will gladly follow up with you.

Thanks again for your feedback! We hope you'll keep TP-Link in mind for your future networking needs.

Best Regards,

Not exactly as advertised 3/30/2017 5:24:22 PM

Pros: The unit is small, fairly easy to set up the first time, and works as described in many ways.

Cons: Two big downsides. This device is advertised asbeing capable of connecting to a 3g/4g network. It does not. It only has a USB port which lets you insert a 3g/4g device. Was expecting to use a SIM card in the TP-Link for 3g/4g service. Secondly, when used in WISP mode to connect to a wifi signal, you must configure the ssid/password each time. It will not remember earlier connections which makes it difficult to take home, to the office and then use on a work wifi because for each new location you must program the previously-used ssid. Even the simplest devices remember a few previous ssid. Not particularly impressed, overall.

Manufacturer Response:
Hi Robert, thank you for the review and feedback.

We'll be more than happy to address the concerns you have about the router.

The TL-MR3020 supports 3G/4G connectivity via compatible USB cellular modems; it's not designed for use with SIM cards. We'll gladly share your feedback about multiple network profiles in WISP mode with our product development team. We always appreciate when customers provide insight about their experience with our product's features.

If you have any other questions or concerns, please feel free to e-mail USSupportTeam@TP-Link.com, or call us at the toll-free number below, and a Support Agent will gladly assist you.

Thanks again for your feedback! We hope you'll keep TP-Link in mind for your future networking and smart home needs.

Great little Piratebox 4/11/2014 11:05:45 AM

Pros: -Small (duh)
-Low power requirements
-Powerful (As in bandwidth(for it's size))
-Great for use as a Librarybox or Piratebox
-Comes in a neat little box (I'm easily entertained :p )
-Compatible with 3G/4G USB devices

Cons: -Low distance (to be expected)

Overall Review: I use this as a Piratebox, and it works great! Up to 2MB/s for wireless connections. I wish it had a longer wireless reach, though. Other than that, I can't find anything else wrong with it! It's a great, reliable little device.

Works Great with Verizon USB760 [Novatel 3G EVDO] and UML295 [Pantech 4G LTE] 8/31/2013 10:13:31 PM

Pros: Worked reliably with my old Verizon USB760 and, now that I have upgraded, it seems to work reliably with my new UML295 for 4G, too.

Runs from 5V power applied to its mini-USB (not micro-USB) port, so I have been able to run it in my vehicle from a spare Tom-Tom automotive power adapter since they also use mini-USB.

Has more configurability than typical SOHO router, even ones costing a couple hundred dollars (though less, obviously, than OpenWRT/DD-WRT/Tomato or a Cisco-Catalyst-type router).

Cons: No obvious cons relative to specifications and its intended applications. Would love to see shell access to the underlying OS and built-in OpenVPN TUN client, but those are rare features for any router in this class, even ones costing a few hundred dollars.

Overall Review: I originally bought this to flash with OpenVPN, but never got beyond the OEM firmware tests with my mobile broadband USB modems: It worked so well, I now keep it -- with the original firmware -- in the work van 24/7 on an ordinary cigarette lighter to mini-USB power adapter.

I now have instant internet access while in customer's homes and businesses without asking for guest access to their wifi or hanging a fragile modem dongle off the side of my laptop and waiting for a connection. It's been great.

We may start buying more of these to flash with OpenWRT to install alongside our equipment in customer's homes. With appropriate filtering and a high-bandwidth middle-man server, we can use either stunnel or OpenVPN to circumvent the NAT employed by Verizon's eHRPD, allowing customers to remotely access their CCTV recorder and door-access panel when mobile broadband serves as their home internet connection. (A better option is Verizon's offer for static IPv4 addresses for a $500 one-time setup cost, but I have not been able to convince any of our customers to enroll.)

good router but no dice w/ U600 8/11/2013 5:39:28 PM

Pros: The factory firmware is good. Works fine with DD-Wrt. It would work fine as a wireless access point, repeater, or "WISP" router. The Hotspot System feature in DD-Wrt works with this router. Can be powered from a USB port. Patch cable included.

Cons: The hardware compatibility list says that this router is compatible with the Sprint / Franklin U600. I have a U600 from Virgin (which uses Sprint's network). I was unable to get the router to work with this modem, either under the factory firmware or DD-Wrt. I searched the net extensively, posted to the manufacturer's support forum, and emailed tech support. No joy. But I'm not upset; it turns out I didn't really need this router because the place I was visiting had a good wifi signal. I'll keep the router for testing, and in case support for the U600 is added in the future.

Overall Review: Range is less than spectacular, but what can one expect without an external antenna?

Buy your hardware well in advance of your trip so you have time to test it an ascertain whether it meets your needs.

Does the job 10/1/2012 5:23:26 PM

Pros: Recently used this tiny router in Europe for two weeks. Excellent size for travel warriors. TP-Link provides excellent support for 3G/4G modems. Just look-up the country you are visiting and their website shows you the service provider and USB modem model supported. Bought a 3G USB modem in Moscow for 35 dollars plus a month of Internet access. The device works as advertised. The web interface is easy to use. Works with 110 and 220 power. Just make sure you get the right adapter for your destination.

Cons: None

Excellent & Tiny 10/1/2012 12:03:55 PM

Pros: Runs OpenWrt Attitude Adjustment TRUNK, see openwrt.org for details.

Atheros radio well supported, using ath9k driver.

Large amount of RAM.

Low power requirements.

Reasonably priced.

Cons: Probably has fairly low range due to internal antenna.

4M flash is just sufficient.

Overall Review: I did not buy this for its intended use as a 3G hotspot generator. Instead, I got this as a base to run OpenWrt and Squeezeslave as a tiny battery powered music streamer. I'm happy to say that it works great, and was my easiest OpenWrt project out of 4 routers now.

Since it is so tiny, I plan to stuff it in an old boombox shell powered by a 12VDC lighter cord.

Amazing for PirateBox! 9/12/2012 10:16:23 AM

Pros: This thing has amazing capability with OpenWRT. I installed the PirateBox server for file sharing capabilities. The range is actually pretty far

Cons: None its perfect

Overall Review: I will probably buy a few more for some other projects.
