IS there an RJ-11 port on this?  The specs don't mention it. Tkx.

Hi, sorry, the TP Link TL R860 8 Port Router while a great router, is strictly using the connector type generally referred to as 'ethernet connectors' also typically referred to as 'RJ45'  - and while the original specs of this are defunct, the same connector width and type (8p8c = 8 positions, 8 conductors) are still typically referred to as RJ45 today.

'RJ11' also generally referred to as a 'phone modular connector' line is not technically specific, but it is usually either a 6p2c or 6p4c and not going to be compatible.  :(  Sorry!

Great router though, and great for an active business, gaming household or most applications where no telephone line connection is needed. Good luck!  ~Al / Scott

Can I add an external wireless access point to this?

I haven't tried it with this router, but my experience has been that it will only work if the TP-LINK WAN port is connected to the wireless access point, such as a wireless router.  This will allow your non-wireless devices that are attached to the TP-LINK the ability to connect to the internet or other wireless devices.

Question 3

Is this router for home use to connect devices to to the internet where the person doesn't want to be wireless? I'm guessing the blue port is for the cable modem and the rest is for connecting the computer, gaming system, etc.

Yes, this is a hard-wired router and, as you said, the blue port is the Wide Area Network (WAN) port that connects to your cable or dsl modem via an Ethernet cable.  Your PC and other Local Area Network devices connect to the yellow ports.  You can read about this router and even download and look at documentation at TP-links' web site. 
I have one and it has worked for me without issues.  One thing I was surprised to find (belatedly) is that apparently the default is for the router's firewall to be turned off.  Since the Windows firewall should be turned off when using a router, the router's firewall should be active or one (such as me) will find themselves operating with no firewall at all.  Oops....

Does this unit also acts as a wireless router?

No it does not.  If you buy the subject router and want wireless you would have to purchase a separate Access Point and plug it into one of the LAN Ports of the router.

do this router have dynamic ip adress or protection against ddos attacks?

This residential gateway / router can use either dynamic or static address assignment on the WAN side and has full DHCP Server capabilities on the LAN side.

From the TP-Link web site, they say:

"TL-R860 includes a built-in strong firewall for safeguarding your network from hackers and malicious attacks from across the Internet, such as DoS attack, ARP virus attack, etc. For added convenience, it supports access control based on the time of day, MAC address, IP address, or domain name. So parents and network administrators can establish restricted access policies for children or staff."

However, if you are operating a server worthy of a Distributed Denial Of Service attack, you should probably be looking at higher-end commercial routers. DDOS attacks are not targeting home offices too much.

I use MAC address filtering and static IP mapping.  My current router only allows 32 entries.  How many does this allow?

I suggest you contact and ask TP-Link support at www.tp-link.us. The Support tab has links to both Technical Support and a Tech Support Forum. You can also download the router's User Guide, but when I looked I didn't see any reference to how many filtering entries the TL-R860 allows.

Will this work with Windows 10 and and Arris Surfboard SB6141 DOCSS 3 cable modem using Xfinity internet? I can't seem to find a router that meets these requirements? thanks in advance

I want to make sure this product will work for my design for an in home network so here is the basic layout of hardware I have and what I want to be able to do...I know my current layout is more adhoc than anything but it is what I have available to use.  All computers are in separate rooms, first - cable to century link modem, acer and toshiba ethernet using cat 5e cable to linksys router, mine is from the century lin modem to another router in my room, I want one router to manage 4 computers and be able to all connect to the internet and work on a homegroup, so century link modem to router then to computers will this work with this product while having great connections?

I had six computer hooked up to this. It's just as fast as going right to the modem. No problems.

aLL i NEED TO DO IT CONNECT ABOUT 6 COMPUTERS OR DEVICES TO ONE ETHERNET OUTLET. iS THIS A GOOD ITEM TO DUE IT?

This is intended to be connected to a modem, so if you mean one ethernet connection that is coming from a MODEM connected to the internet, then yes.   You can connect 6 computers to this and they will all get their own sub address and be accessing the internet.

This is inexpensive, reliable, and simple (for me it was plug n play).  I have 5 computers, and a wifi  box connected to mine.  Good luck

Is it easy to set up port forwarding on this router?

I have not set up port forwarding on this model, but the setup menu is very easy to use.  Just enter the IP address and port number you want to forward to.  I have another TP-LINK router using port forwarding, and it was simple to set up and works great.
