Question 1

Thank you for the ability to obtain answers to questions:
1.) This unit looks like it plugs in a stand alone printer (not connected to a computer) then is available wirelessly by wireless devices, such as Netbooks & iPhones.  Is this true ?
2.) Does this product work with any operating system (PC: XP, win7, win8 ?  MAC: iPhone & AirBook3 ?)

It's really clever .. and I know of nothing else thatdoes what it does. Mine works well.

1.) it DOES plug into a stand alone printer via usb. it has its own power supply though .. so don't expect it to operate via the 5vdc available on the USB cord .. it doesn't

Once installed the device behaves (on the PC side) no differently than any other connected printer. So you will print from netbook, iphone etc using one of the same techniques you would use to print to any printer. Google has a cloud printing service (you have to sign up for google plus ) that works pretty well. You can print at home from the other side of the world !!  Of course Google will also copy your info to the N.S.A. , and Google will think that's o.k. until Eric Snowden outs them .. then they'll apologize and make it look like "no" wasn't an option for them  (lol) . (Sorry for the editorial).

Set up is a little confusing .. but eventually you figure it out. 
Keep in mind everything configures via wifi .. so you must at a minimum understand enough to get your PC IP address reset to match the default in the device long enough to set the address you want .. there is no other way.

2.) I'll check my install disk tonight and advise if they have any way to direct print ...but I don't think so ..

Is the YL-WPS51U compatable with a HP Color Laser Jet 2605dn?

If its USB its compatible I use it with a Pixma series printer. I know of no other way to make a non-wireless device wireless.

However .. while the device works well set up is a little mysterious at first. You have to do it via wifi .. there is no other way.

Also My pixma does NOT report ink level (outbound data) through tplink for reasons I don't understand. I used to have the printer set up through a wireless USB bridge with 4 ports .. and it did not return level infor either which leads me to believe the problem is something to do with the printer

Question 3

The USB cable will not be long enough. Are there longer ones for sale?  It is a weird USB connection.

Well, I cannot see from the diagram of the product if the cable you got had a male square end at both ends of the cable or a male square end
on 1 end and a square female on the other.  Most printers have square female USB B socket. IE you buy a common USB B male and USB A Male printer cable. But it looks as if you need a cable with USB B Male ends on each end of the cable. 1 for the print server and 1 for the printer. These cables are available. But, I am not sure New egg or many people carry them. If you need the same male square ends, get 1 9SIAAUJ41K8884  from Newegg and also get 1 common USB 2.0 A/B male cable in the length you need. They are usually 3,6, 10 and 15 feet. The part above will convert the A end into a B

Question 4

I have a surface pro 3,2 iPad, and 4 iPhones on my wireless network. I do have an old hp desktop hard wired to my network that will soon be removed and the workload will be handeled by the surface mentioned above. Question is will I need to install the software on the surface in order for this this to work on my printer? And if for some reason I keep the hp will it print even though it's hard Wired to my network? Also if for any reason my router lost connection could I still print wirelessly offline through my network?

No clue. I returned this product about a week after I bought it 2 years ago because it kept dropping offline. I tried everything to keep it online but no luck. Probably the worst product I ever bought from newegg.com but newegg.com was great allowing me to return it without question. The product is worth 2 outa 5 stars but newegg is worth 5 outa 5 stars. I strongly suggest you keep looking.

Question 5

Does this support a scanning function, since most printers now do scanning as well?

Is this compatable with the HP Office Jet 2620?

I have no idea tho when it worked I used it for a HP laserjet.   I returned it (around 2 years ago) because it kept dropping connection to the point it got annoying and wasn't convenient any longer.  Newegg was great (they get 5 stars from me), the product was not (it deserves only 2 stars at best).

If your printer has a USB connection, find out which one (USB 1, 2 or 3, a, b, g, etc...) and see if it's compatible / backward compatible to your choice of USB print server.  Your printer manual, Google and/or print server mfgr. should be able to help you on this.

Question 7

Is this device compatible with samsung clp 670nd ?

I am not sure if the samsung clp 670nd has any compatibility issues, however....
In general, most wireless print severs will work with any printer, as long as the printer can physically attach to the print server. 
I have found that working with the tplink models, that a firmware update may be needed. The updates are available on the tplink site.
The Tplink site may also have a list of incompatible printers.

Question 8

Is this print server compatible with windows 7?

I think so BUT I only had it for a week before I returned it.   It kept dropping the connection and eventually I got frustrated and returned the product.  Newegg was excellent then when I returned the product.   If you want my advice, don't buy it unless you can handle frustration well (regarding the product).

Is it compatible with the Samsung CLX-3160FN?

"Itwill work since the CLX-3160FN has a USB cable connection. As far as the CLX-3160FN is concerned the TP-Link TL-WPS510U is just an USB cable connection to the PC."

Is it compatible with HP laserjet M1136 MFP ?

If your HP has a USB port, yes.

The setup is a little tricky
1. Power the device. The documentation says to connect it to a printer (via usb) but its not required.
2. The software requires the host PC to have wifi. I'm using a Netgear usb stick.
3. The software connects to a wifi router and finds the device.
4. For my purposes, I changed the IP settings.
5. It will ask to setup a printer. I cancelled at this point. The device was ready.

6. On Windows, if a printer is set up during installation it'll create a port. That port will point to the IP address of the print server. I did nothing on the print server to tell it what kind of printer it was serving.

One other item I noticed: I sometimes had trouble pinging the device on the LAN.
1. It seems to take awhile for the device to make the initial connection to the wifi router.
2. I use mac address security. After adding the mac address I rebooted the print server. Connected.

I recently purchased 6 of these units for our shop printers.
I'm using them as standalone network print servers, on HP laserJets, Zebra TPL2844z's, and Zebra S4M's.
