Question 1

i have a samsung blueray. it has netflix and either net port but apparently no wireless.  i don't have a cable near it, but do have a wireless router i would like to use.  will this work to connect my either net port on my blue ray to my wifi network in the house for doing netflix and youtube? thanks. mcihael

Short answer, not quite, but you are close.  You actually need a wireless access point and not a wireless router.  A TL-WA701ND will do the trick.  It needs to be configured in Client Mode, and then it can connect to your existing wifi network in your house, then the Ethernet on the access point can connect to the Ethernet on your BluRay player.  You may in fact be better off running an Ethernet cable through your house, though, depending on what type of construction you have.

Question 2

I want to run openwrt.  Some versions are unsupported.  Can you tell me the model version of this product?

I received hardware v4.27 of this router.  So far, I'm running only stock firmware, but may be looking to "upgrade" later.  OpenWrt's wikis say that the TL-WR740N v4.27 is not supported, but the TL-WR741ND v4.27 is.  Since these two routers use identical hardware except for a detachable antenna, it *might* be possible to use the 741's firmware in the 740 router.  Check OpenWrt's forums to be sure.  DD-WRT might also be an option.

Question 3

In reference to the N150 or N300 routers, I have a question of curiosity based on the wireless speeds in comparison with the wired connection speeds. They claim to use 10/100M wired connection speeds. So, how can a product acquire a max wired connection of 100 Mbps speed, while broadcasting 150 or 300 Mbps speed? Isn't that mathematically impossible?

The communication speed between any two devices on your network will always be limited by the slowest speed device in the link.  Some examples:

1) One laptop w/54Mbps wifi adapter,
router w/300Mbps wifi link,
router WAN port @ 100Mbps,
DSL modem @ 5Mbps.

In this case the laptop's internet connection speed would be limited to 5Mbps, the DSL modem's speed.

2) Two laptops, each with 54Mbps wifi adapters (108Mbps total in parallel),
router w/300Mbps wifi link,
router LAN port @ 100Mbps,
one desktop PC w/100Mbps ethernet link.

If both laptops were simultaneously downloading files from the desktop, the maximum total transfer speed would be 100Mbps, limited by the wired ethernet link.

3) Six laptops, each with 54Mbps wifi adapters (324Mbps total in parallel),
router w/300Mbps wifi link,
four router LAN ports @ 100Mbps (400Mbps total in parallel),
four desktop PCs w/100Mbps ethernet links (also 400Mbps total in parallel).

If all six laptops were simultaneously downloading files from all four desktops, the maximum total transfer speed would be 300Mbps, limited in this case by the router's wifi link.

CAN THIS BE USED WITH MY CENTURYLINK 512K SERVICE? DO I NEED A MODEM?

Yes to both questions.  The best setup would be to connect this router's WAN port to your DSL modem's ethernet port and connect your non-wireless PCs' (if any) ethernet ports to this router's LAN ports.

What is the range of this router?My home is 1BHK.

You should be fine. I have bought these for clients who have 2 story homes. It always depends on environmental factors though. Walls , lights , other electronics including other wireless gear. That can cause interference in any router.

Question 6

The TL-WR740N V5 is listed in both the supported and nonsupported list of DD-WRT devices. The one I own is V5.0 and has a 5Volt power supply. The supported device has 4 MB flash. The nonsupported device has 2 MB. Does the device I own have 2 MB or 4 MB flash?

This is not the correct place to ask that. Ask on the DD-WRT forums. From personal experience, these routers don't function that well as DD-WRT devices. They simply aren't powerful enough.

I am sorry I can not help you, I have actually upgraded from this device because I wasn't getting the reception I was wanting, Although I am not complaining about the reception cause at the time I had ordered this device I was just needing to get something cheap and this worked for what I was wanting at the price I got it for. I hope you figure out how to hook your phone to the wifi with this device.
