does it need the A/C plug to work? or is it passive as well as long as the load is not to great?

Yes the adapter is required, I just tried it by unplugging the adapter and just plugging a usb mouse, the mouse did not work, I plugged the ac adapter in and the mouse worked, and of course a usb hard drive did not work too much of a draw...hope this helps

Can this be used to connect Seagate and WD USB hard drives to a windows 10 computer?

In regard to the plug to be inserted into a wall outlet or power strip, it won't fit.  The prongs are not long enough. It is not a standard male end. I have no idea how to use it. I have never seen such a plug before.  Anyone know how to use it?

The one I have fits fine.  You might have to turn it 180 degrees for the small and large prongs to fit.  I have seen other cases with new outlets that the first time you plug a device in it is hard and you have to push rather hard.  Unless you have a defect.  always be careful with electrical plugs

Will this provide 2A to every port simultaneously? I'm looking for something to power three Raspberry Pi's all running at the same time.

The transcend hub you're asking about has three USB 3.0 regular power ports and one 2A fast charge port. I bought this hub specifically for a Raspberry Pi. I'm not sure about 3 Pi's simultaneously.

my device always connects off from my computor why is so?

This does the same for me as well.  What I think is that it detects if there is any data transfer and once a set time has passed without any transfer it goes into a standby mode and turns itself off.  Basically it is saving you money on electricity.  I have my External Seagate Hard Drive connected to this and it does the same thing.  Then they both come back online when I access the Drive.  Takes a bit of getting use to as I'm use to things staying on and all that, but I actually like that it saves me that extra cost on energy.  This is just my opinion and maybe it is for some other reason, but it seems to work fine.

Is the fast charging slot for charging only? Or does it allow data transfer as well? I need a powered hub to use my Wireless mouse with.

It allows for both data and charging.This is a great fast hub. Now when I turn my PC off, I have the hub plugged with its own power supply and use it as a charging station for my phone.

Question 7

I have one of these devices, and like it.  I'm thinking of ordering another one.  When I get the other one, can I use one of the ports on the original one to connect to my new one, using just the power supply of the original?  In other words, can I run both devices from one power supply?

Yes, so long as you have the unit powered up using its own power supply.

I have a usb 2.0 computer and I want to connect a wd hard drive which runs with usb 3.0. Will this hub do the job since its backward compatible?

You don't need the hub.  You can connect the hard drive into your computer directly.  You won't get 3.0 speeds, only 2.0 speeds.  If you put the hub in place you still will only get 2.0 speeds as you are limited to the slowest connection interface in the chain between the device and the computer.  The only way to get 3.0 speeds would be to upgrade you computer with an add-in card with usb3.0 or a new computer.  But the simple answer is you can plug your hard drive straight into the computer and all should work fine, just at 2.0 speeds.

Question 10

My hub will not read a 3TB external HDD.  Why?  Is there a HDD size limit?  If so, why wasn't it listed in the specs?

No size limits I know off however it does seem to have issues with 3.0 USB portable drives that don't have their own power supply even in the one powered outlet on the side.
