Question 1

Hi.

Im interested in this enclosure for my Dell Studio 1737. I have removed the HD from the laptop, but Im left with a question...

Do I need to purchase a case with an ac adapter or will pluging this new setup into another computer power "it" as intended?

Hi Collin

You don't need an ac adapter, the USB is enough to power it. I think it even has a dual USB in case it is not getting enough power.

For me, just plugging in 1 of the USB's was enough. I was connecting it to a desktop which may make a difference compared to plugging it into a laptop.

Question 2

Want to use this enclosure to put a seagate Momentus 7200.4 500 GB hard drive. The drive has SATA interface connector with 7 pins and a power connector with 15 pins. USB 2.0 will this work?

I believe it will work just fine. I bought one for the hdd in my wife's dead notebook and am very happy with it. However, it will only work as storage. You can install an OS on a thumb drive and have your computer boot to that drive, however when I tried to use it that way, so my wife could use her programs on my computer, my computer would not recognize it as such. However, she was able to access her files and so forth, so it will work just fine that way. When you do try to access the files, it will take a couple of minutes for your computer to allow you access to them but once it finishes doing an upload connection, you are able to it works just like any usb thumb drive. Hope this helps. As a storage medium I would give it 5 eggs.

I have a Seagate Momentus XT 500GB.  Will this external enclosure work with it?

I'm afraid I not much help.  I actually purchased it for my sister.  She lives down in FL and hasn't been able to get Windows 8 to recognize the drive.

Question 4

Will the 740GB hdd from my early 2011 MBP "15", model 8.25, fit in this enclosure?

I purchased this enclosure in mid December and installed an old Hitachi 250GB hard drive from a Lenovo lap top.  The hard drive installed easily, but it was a snug fit.  It has worked great without problems  However, if a 750GB HD is much thicker, perhaps the fit would be problematic.

Question 5

I have a Toshiba HDD removed from my old laptop.  SATA 3.0 Gb/s, model 5k500.B-500.

Will this enclosure work with it?

I have this enclosure for another HDD and it works well.
