Would this be good and safe to use instead of  a router for connecting more than one computer by wire? (no wireless wanted)

If you want to connecting it directly to your internet cable modem then the answer is "NO".  It is just ethernet switch.

If your internet is feed is coming from some router then it is just fine to split the feed to multiple computers.

Question 2

Do routers like this support POE (power over ethernet), or do I have to see that listed as a feature to be certain?

There are two ways to interpret your question:  does the switch/router supply POE on a port, or does a switch/router transfer POE across ports?  In both cases the answer is no, unless specified as a feature.  I also do not believe any switc/router transfers POE across ports because that would require physical cross connection in the switch and the data is transferred across ports digitally.

Does it have holes at the bottom for wall mounting?

Question 4

Can these be daisy chained?  I have a connection from my main router to an upstairs switch with a grouping of devices.  From there, I want to run a connection from that switch to another switch with a couple of devices down stream.  Will that work? Do I need a cross over cable?

No crossover cable was needed at my house, and I have this in my basement connecting a router to 2 switches. It works great.

It appears to be a 5 port switch  -- What does Switches 4 to 10 Ports mean?

4 real ports, 6 imaginary ports.  I think you can even imagine the 6 ports to run at 100Gbs if you want.

Does the power adapter of this thing works with voltages other than 120? Or this can be utilized only in USA?

110-125v AC. Normal USA style outlet for the wall wart power adapter. 
At the price, buy an adapter to go to 240v if you are not in North America. 
Have had mine for over a year, installed it and it has worked fine 24/7. :)

How does it save energy? Is it going to constantly be switching the power up  and down and causing dirty electricity?  Do these things usually consume a lot of power?

It doesn't switch up and down, it just uses the least amount of power necessary to get the job done.
No, they usually don't consume a lot of power. And this one, I guess, uses even less than they usually do. But it does so seamlessly.

They SAY it reduces power consumption by up to 70%*.
It does everything automatic, and you'd never know it was doing anything. I haven't tossed it on a watt meter, but it hasn't given me any trouble, and the adapter that came with mine is a 5V 1A, and it's not running near capacity (it's cool to the touch).

"Switches 4 to 10 Ports Gigabit" is stated.  How can it switch 10 ports with only 5 connections?

They have various models of the same basic technology that come with from 4 to 10 ports.  I have a 5 port and an 8 port.  Both work flawlessly.

Is this device wall-mountable with locking push pins?

I'm not sure what a locking push pin is, but you could mount it to the wall with some nails or I use both plastic push pins and I have also hung them up with the 3M Velcro stuff as well.

The wall mounts are just holes that get smaller so it uses gravity to lock in.
