It requires a computer. There is a driver and setup necessary to join it to the network. Maybe you are looking for a wireless extender? It would increase the range of your existing wireless network.

Yes I was able to get it up and running with relative easy.  However after the first "Windows Update" I did need to reconnect the network printer and I had to reinstall the my antivirus software but I beleive this was an issue related to the computer model and the Windows Update.

it worked for a couple minutes - then stopped - but I didn't use it for quite some time since I purchased it - would never buy again -

Can this product be used in ubuntu-12.04-desktop version?

I would have to say yes, however, ubtu.12.04 may have to be reconfigured, all the way to reloaded.  But that prog. usually will take what ever you throw at it. So I am just taking an educated guess.
