Is this something I can plug into my USB port on any desktop or laptop to gain WiFi access?

Being USB and coming with drivers for Windows and Mac OS X, you can use this in any laptop or desktop computer that has a USB port and is running Windows or Mac OS X operating system.

Trendnet has just updated their drivers to support Mac OS 10.9 and Windows 8.1 so be sure to head out to their website and grab the new drivers if you are using one of these new operating systems.

Question 2

Will this (easily) work with Linux, specifically Raspbian?

I'm interested in connecting one of these to my Raspberry Pi, but I'd like to know that it will work before I buy it.

I've tried this with ubuntu and it doesn't work right out of the box so you might have some trouble making it work. If I remember correctly it uses a Broadcom chip and they're not usually very Linux friendly.

Is this like a Hot Spot device ?

No, I use it to get N channel on my wife's computer.  I installed a new wireless that has N on it, which is faster than G.  My wife's laptop computer has only g.  You can also use it on a laptop that does not have wireless.

Currently TRENDnet's website states TEW-804UB V1.0R Estimated Availablility November, 2015 for Windows 10 support/compatibility. Does anyone have this product with Windows 10 currently working? Pretty good deal and I wouldn't mind picking it up but am unfamiliar with the company and their ability to update drivers ect.

I had to replace it after it failed right around the time I updated to Windows 10. Not sure if it was the update or product. It worked well enough when it worked at all and the cheap price didn't make it too onerous to replace. is it dual band?

It sure acts like it is.  My Dell Inspiron 5721 is currently connected to both bands from a Linksys EA6300 at 72Mbps and 433.5 Mbps through the Trendnet TEW-804UB from an unobstructed distance of 12 feet.  The notebook's internal wireless radio is disabled.  My only complaint is that the package doesn't include a small protective carrying case for the device

i personally bought it for mountain lion OS but the trendnet site says it is "Compatibility
Windows® 8.1, 8, 7, Vista, XP
Mac OS® 10.4-10.9"

can't post links but if you type in "trendnet ".com" and click on adapters, they have full specs on the AC600
