Question 2

I want to replace my g/n low-cost, low-performance router with a high performance one with ac capability.  This looks like the one to get.  I am confused by the specs showing there is no wireless adapter.  Is this something I would need to add for my home network wireless use?  I have a smart TV, smart DVD, etc. and want to "future proof" as much as I can.

Hello Jim - I replaced my old AirPort Extreme router with this Trendnet - mainly because I wanted to extend the range and because we now have about 5-6 devices in the house using the wireless signal.  I have a cable modem that provides the internet through Optimum.  I connected the Trendnet router to the cable modem and also attached a USB printer to the Trendnet.  It works great.  It provides wireless service to all the devices, including the TV, and it allows me to print wirelessly from any of the laptops or desktops.  The only thing I can say is that the range is not what I hoped it would be.  I set it up in my home office, but the signal does not extend all the way to the kids bedrooms which are on the very other end of the house.  (I am in the process of getting a device to extend the range.)  I hope this helps.  --Joe.

According to the website, this appears to be ver. 2 of this router that supports USB 3.0. Can anyone confirm this?

I purchased this router a few months ago.  Mine is a V1 unit with USB that to the best of my knowledge, is only good if you have to connect a USB printer.  Many printers these days also have Ethernet connectivity.

The router description says its V2 but there isn't a picture of the bottom of the unit to verify that.  The picture of the back has a USB 2.0 connector.  The TrendNet website has the same picture.  Further in the description is:

• Up to 1300Mbps AC+450Mbps N bands 
• Isolated guest network 
• One touch network connection with the WPS button 
• Parental Control 
• USB 3.0 share port 
• Graphic Interface for easy setup

Oh by the way, the Guest Network provide by this router is Enabled with DHCP on by default.  This caused a couple of days troubleshooting after the second day that I hooked up my wife' s laptop and so the printer and internal network were blocked for her.  Once I found out, the guest was disabled.....

I like that I can hardwire the router to my computers that are 1 gig Ethernet capable; I thought this would give me faster internet connections but not sure that is happening.  And even with a wireless adapter in my new Gateway computer (also through Newegg) and this router sitting less than 18 inches above, I am not getting anywhere near the wireless speeds advertised.

I understand that this router can broadcast the AC and the N WiFi standard at the same time.

Can someone tell me if it's possible for this router to broadcast in N-2.4 GHz and N-5 GHz at the same time too (no AC)?

Yes, you can broadcast in  n on both 2.4 and 5 GHz at the same time. I have 2 different brand tablets that are capable of using both bands. I have tried turning off the lower band and both units switched instantly to N on the upper band. I also tried it the other way. I named both ssid,s the same the that the receiving units can select which band works best.

I would be hooking this up to a chromebox, gaming PC, 2 wifi TVs and 2 wiFi blu ray players. I currently have a linksys EA4500 and no ac devices. Is it worth anticipating the future by purchasing this unit?

Simpluy said..it's a router. I bought that for our condo and it works fine. My daughter has three kids and a techno husband and he was raving about this: Asus RT-AC68U Dual-band Wireless-AC1900 Gigabit Router . It's pricey but he said it kicks a$$.

Is this the new version 2?  I can't tell from the details if it is the newest version that has 3.0 USB, higher powered amplifiers to extend wifi range, etc.  Please verify.  If so, I will purchase one.

One more question . . .   Your ad says USB 3.0 but some previous buyers say it is actually 2.0.  Which is it?  Thank you!

From what I can tell, there are actually two versions of this router.  The first version had USB 2.0, and the second release(which they advertise as exactly the same otherwire) used USB3.0.  I suspect that a lot of customers and reviewers commented that they liked the first version but wished it had USB 3.0.  Hence they quietly re-released with USB 3.0.

The version I purchased has USB 3.0, so just make sure if you buy this router to get the version2.0.  I haven't had any issues and so far it works as advertised.  I hope that helps.

I believe that is correct.  I am unaware of any other difference.  I have never used nor found a way to use the USB port myself.
