Is this compatible with Ubuntu?

KVM switches are pretty much independent of the operating system.  What is crucial is that all the connections are standard.  If each system you are connecting to can use the common hardware (mouse, keyboard,monitor, audio) when it is connected directly, then the KVM should work.  You have to be careful with screen size (resolution) because the KVM will not support the really high resolutions.  Also, no adapters, especially on the video.  Your connections should be direct.

It will probably work with Ubuntu but you will never know for sure (with any KVM) until you try it.

Question 2

I want to connect a PC (with a direct DVI connection) and a Mac (using a Mini DisplayPort --> DVI adapter). The monitor is a ViewSonic VS 13239 (1920 x 1080).

Will this cause a problem because of the adapter on the Mac side?

My experience suggests that it's POSSIBLE, but it depends on your DVI adapter. In my case, I hooked the KVM up to one of the two monitors I have on my Mac mini, one hooked up via DVI->HDMI and one hooked up with DVI->Mini DisplayPort. When I hooked it up via MDP originally, I had lines of mostly-red pixels, so I switched to the HDMI port. However, I suspect the problem was my adapter: the MDP one was a third-party (Monoprice) one while the HDMI adapter is stock Apple.

Question 3

My monitor just shows bunches of colored horizontal and vertical lines jumping around on the screen when I hook this up. Any ideas why?

This sounds like a question for TRENDNet technical support.   When I installed mine, it worked with my monitors, but took some time to recognize the keybard.

Will this work with a Microsoft  natural ergo 4000 keyboard?

Yes, it does. My problem with it is that I use it with a Dell Ultrasharp U2713HM, and this switch only allows for a 1920x1080 resolution, rather than the 2560x1440 recommended resolution for the monitor. As a graphics professional, had I noticed that at the time of purchase, I wouldn't have bought it. It works well with a basic Microsoft mouse, but it doesn't work with a Razer Ouroboros mouse, so neither of two mice are connected to the switch. I don't have a problem recommending it for basic component use, but not for anything above that level.

Question 5

Will this switch allow connecting two laptop computers to two monitors?  The computers are Lenovo T500 and Dell Latitude
Boh hae docking stations.  The monitors are 21" Samsung but I do not have the models.

This switch does not support dual monitors. You can connect two computers of any type.

Question 6

Has anyone tried to utilize one of the two USB ports for a Logitech unifying receiver with both KB and mouse, and the other for something like a wireless headset?

We have a couple using unified receivers and one using a wired keyboard with a built in USB hub with the mouse connected to the keyboard. We haven't had any trouble with those but we haven't tried using the other USB connection for anything else.

Question 7

Will this work with 120Hz refresh rate 1080p monitors and produce 120Hz properly? Or does it drop to 60Hz?

This simply transfers signal.  It should have anything to do with the refresh rate on the monitors themselves.

Just as running a 60Hz TV and a 120Hz TV on the same cable connection.  The cable is simply providing the image signal -the clarity and refresh rate are regulated by the hardware.
