Question 1

We purchased this 4port switch only about 2 weeks ago to access 3 computers on one desk. The other day one of the lights started blinking (port 3) and the mouse and keyboard didn't work. We have  switched them around and unplugged it and discovered that it is one specific computer that it is no longer working on. It was working fine one day, and not the next. Any suggestions as to what it could be?

I've had two of the older 407's in service for several years. I bought the newer 40K as a backup but actually installed it in place of one of the 407's. Worked interchangeably. I don't use hot keys or the software, only manual switching of the buttons. Works good on four computers running both windows and Linux. The lights will continue to blink if there is still power to the switch so I switch of the main power switch on the back of the computers, that shuts any blinking lights off. If I don't sometimes the switch won't change to another computer. Your problem sounds like it might be a video or usb driver problem on the computer that's not working. You probably already tried it but could be bad cable so I'd switch the non working computers cables to one I knew worked. I'd also check one working computer on all four ports of the kvm switch to prove they all work. That would mean it's not a defective switch but a problem internal to the problem computer. good luck.

Which version of TK-407K is this?  The Trendnet web site shows only version 4 is current.  Version 1, 2, and 3 are obsolete.  The Newegg web site does not show this one is compatible with Windows 7 or Windows 8.

The one that I have bought from Newegg is model #TK-407K. I looked at the back of it, it says “HW: V1.3R”, most likely it means the hardware is of version 1.3R.

This KVM works fine for me, it is connected to the followings:
1.	Computer with Windows XP Pro, 32-bit
2.	Computer with Windows 7 Pro, 64-bit
3.	Computer with Windows Server 2008 R2, 64-BIT
4.	Security Camera in the office

I don’t think if this devise has anything to do with the operating system, because I can simply see three computers with three different OS, and also a security camera.

Can I use this product to tie in a second computer to the Screen, Mouse, & Keyboard that I am using for Computer #1?

It is like changing the channel on your TV.  When you select a computer, your Keyboard, Mouse and Monitor are changed (moved) to control/display the computer you selected.  Only one computer can be viewed/controlled at a time.

Can I prevent skipping from one port to another?

Sorry, no.  Standalone one monitor shared by 4 computers.  No interconnect to a second unit that would provide dual monitor switching by pressing one button.
