Can you use a switch with this for more internet connections? 
And if yes, without losing any speed?

I am so sorry for replying so late I just saw this in my in-box.
To be honest I am not sure if it can do what you are asking. I stopped using mine a long time ago as it was making a very high- pitched whining noise. Performance-wise... it seemed to do what it was suppose to do, however just got tired of the whining noise.

HI,

I've seen this type of tech for a long time and really don't understand how it could fit my situation.  Maybe you can help.
I have an awesome all in one Samsung color laser printer.  The only problem I have with it is that it is not wireless so I have to hook it to a desktop computer in order to network it.  what a pain.  do you think I could use these to network my printer?

If the printer is networkable by a cable then this is should work.  There would have to be an available network connection on your router or switch.

Plug one unit into a power outlet and plug the network cable to the available router/switch port.  Next plug the other TRENDnet into any other power outlet in the house.

Plug the TRENDnet receiver into a power outlet located wherever you want your printer, then plug the network cable into the printer.

Also makes a great backup in case your wireless goes down in the house.

Are these backwards compatible with the 303 SE adapters? I already have a set of 303's and I am needing to expand, but the 303's seem to be no longer available anywhere.

I owned a couple of TPL-306s (discontinued). Also purchased a couple of 308s and found that the 308 was compatible with the 306. On the Trendnet web site, it is reported that the 303 has been discontinued and replaced by the 306, and  it is also reported that the 306 has been discontinued and replaced by the 308 - which seems to be still available now (December, 2013). So I think it's likely that the 308 is compatible with the 303. As you probably know, many manufacturers provide powerline devices, but it seems that all of them exaggerate about the speed, but my experience has been that the powerlines provide a faster, more reliable ethernet connection than wi-fi.

I know I can't use a power strip, but can I run this off an extension cord as the only device on that cord?

Not sure, but I do have mine plugged into a powerstrip configuration on my workbench near my router. It works pretty decent, way better than trying to get wifi up two floors and over to end of my house.

My Tivo couldn't get enough throughput for streaming. After I bought this I can at least use netflix, pandora and such.

WHAT DOES THE ORANGE LIGHT COME ON MEAN ?

An amber light on the PL led means your unit is not connected at the fastest speed available.  It is connected but at a lower speed.  Go to trendnet dot com and under the Support heading find the box where you enter your model number.  Once you enter and go to the page where your support information is: select UserGuide and download it.  The take a look at page 2 and 3.
If you are getting an amber PL led you are probably 1. in a large house where the length of the run is too long, you live in an old house where the wiring is weakening the signal, 3. there is a wiring issue between the two TPL's.
Run a few experiments and put your TPLs in the same room on the same breaker, then get the two TPLs further and further apart.  I have two locations where I use TPLs to get powerline connectivity one in Costa Rica an the other in Madiera Beach, Florida. Both connect an upstairs outlet to a downstairs outlet.  Same size and type copper wiring.  Both condos built in the same year. Costa Rica always had all green lights.  Florida had the PL line going back and forth between amber and red.  Sometime it would handle a netflick movie being passed between the two TPLs sometimes not.

Basically you would want to use this if you have your modem/router located far away from the source that you want to plug an ethernet line into such as a computer, or laptop with ethernet port.  So instead of running a long line from say your basement (where you modem is located) to your bedroom (which may be located on the third floor), you can instead connect one of these powerline adapters in a power line near your modem, and the other powerline adapter in your room.  It basically gets rid of a long ethernet net you might have to route to a location far away, thus eliminating clutter and gives you a cleaner look. It works pretty well for the most part, but maybe once in a long while, the powerline might need a reset, but overall an amazing product.  Your internet speed may vary also, but these are rated for 200Mbs, and should work with fast internet.

Hello my internet provider recently gave me a new modem(one that gives 200mbps) but they said my computer internet adpater only can receive 100mbps so, my question is do I need this in order to receive 200mbps??

You use this type of device if lets say your modem is in a completely different room from the computer and you can not use 'wireless'.  You plug in this adapter to an open power outlet where the computer is and plug in the other near where the modem is, as such it does not change the max speed your PC can do.

If your computer can only receive 100 Mbps then its likely the limitation of the network adapter on the computer.  This adapter will not change that but most US internet providers do not provide a fast enough connection to fully use 100 Mbps so upgrading may not be worth wild.

The internet speeds are often not limited by the modem or PC but generally by your internet provider and how much you pay.  I have a modem that is able to receive and send over 100 Mbps but my service provider only offers up to 60 Mbps so the max I can get is 60 Mbps not because the hardware does not allow it, but because that is all they provide in the end.

You may want to check with your provider to confirm what speed offered you because that will be the max you can get regardless of what hardware you buy.
